Drops from the third week of October!

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque! October has been a packed month so far for all of the various scenes featured on the blog, and this last week has been no exception - there's been some killer stuff, and I can't wait to cover all of the awesome new releases in today's post! Without further ado, let's get started! Future0s - Soundeater To start this post off, I thought I'd shine a light on Future0s brand new single Soundeater, released through now established collective Nuixante on October 16th. This track is freaking awesome - it's incredibly punchy - it has some killer sample chops, it's insanely funky, it has thumping drum work and a whole lot of style - it reminds me very heavily of the work of German duo Supa Channel - who released a string of EPs for legendary underground label Chateau Funk in the early 2000s. In short, this track is a blinder, and has all of the necessary ingredients to destroy clubs for years to come - DJs, put this in y...

Review: LemKuuja's CHEESECAKE+

Released through legendary independent label Business Casual in June 2018, LemKuuja's fourth album CHEESECAKE+ - a direct sequel to his 2016 debut CHEESECAKE, is a spectacular record - which mixes French house, future funk and bloghouse era electro house perfectly - creating one of the most memorable (and at times insane) records in the late 2010s future funk boom. The whole album is produced excellently - it's extremely punchy, heavy, and demonstrates with ease LemKuuja's skills - there isn't a single skip on the album's eighteen tracks (well, technically twenty, if we're counting the bonus offerings!) - and every single track is unique, interesting and fun - take for example, Ouais Ouais - an upbeat, slightly jazzy, electro influenced banger with jittery, light vocal work from SlyLeaf - Brawl, featuring legendary Romanian producer Aests, is classic future funk at heart, with some fantastic sampling techniques and groove thrown in there for good measure - and...

Drops from the second week of October!

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque! We're now in the second week of October - and there's been a huge variety of drops from a variety of people in various scenes - some of them are strange, epic, and bound to be future classics, and I can't wait to cover them in today's post - so let's get into it. Luv4Loop - Often Ways To start this post off, I wanted to talk about the latest release from future garage stalwart Luv4Loop - the cracking single Often Ways, released through Opierm's Creux La Nuit on October 9th. A groovy, slightly jittery garage jam featuring tons of great micro-sampling techniques and thumping drum work - this track is absolutely perfect for DJs to drop in sets, where it'll likely best perform in packed clubs and venues. It's funky as hell, fun and super sweet. You wouldn't expect anything less from him! You can find the single on his Bandcamp page now. Often Ways on Bandcamp Creux La Nuit - CLNSpace Further adding to Creux...

How I made my debut French house / future funk album!

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque. For today's post, I thought I'd talk about how I made my debut album as dreamer eighty seven - '87, which was released independently through Bandcamp on September 2nd. In this post, you'll get the full breakdown of everything - from sample techniques, the backstories and inspirations for every track, and how I somehow pulled off my greatest work at the most stressful period of my life thus far.  Without further ado, let's get started! THE BACKSTORY: Before we get into the making of '87 - I think a little backstory is needed. Before I started making music as dreamer eighty seven - I was singularly known as Hackurr, and I mostly produced jungle, rave music and 90s inspired electronica, with the odd bit of IDM and house thrown in there for good measure. While producing this kind of music, across 2023 and 2024, I started to get more interested in future funk and French house music - I loved how funky and fun it was, an...

Late September / early October drops!

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque! It's been a hot minute since the last promotion post on the blog (to be more specific, a month!) - and over the last two weeks, there's been some incredible releases, happenings and the return of several legends. Without further ado, let's get straight to it. ADRIANWAVE - DEREALIZATION Released independently on September 30th - Derealization is the brand new album from future funk legend Adrianwave and boy, it is absolutely fantastic. Stuffed to the brim with chilled out hip hop beats, golden age future funk that could fit perfectly on Artzie Music and dazzling, sample based disco jams, this - is a fantastic return to form for one of future funk's all time greats. Throughout the ten tracks released on this album, Adrianwave demonstrates his talents widely, creating a fun, interesting and incredibly unique album. My personal favourites on this future classic include Obsessive Compulsive - a groovy, extremely upbeat future f...

Interview: Laberge

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque. For today's epic interview - we have an absolutely legendary person stepping up to the virtual hot seat here on the blog - Canadian nu disco / house producer (and bloghouse legend!) - Laberge. Known for his seminal work on labels such as Solid Bump Records and buttery smooth (this pun wasn't intended) independent productions across almost two decades - it is an absolute honor to have him here today. Without further ado, I'll let him do the talking! For those who don’t know you – who are you, and what music do you make? I am Laberge, from Vancouver, Canada. I have been producing disco house since 2007. You’ve been making music since 2005 – and rose to prominence during the bloghouse era – can you name some of your favourite artists from that period?  Well, my 2005 music was basically Daft Punk mashups or rave rap (electro house 140bpm with rap acapellas). Yeah that time was… something. Building onto that, what would you say i...

The Daft Punk Experience in Fortnite is awesome.

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque! Last night, after much anticipation - The Daft Punk Experience launched on Fortnite - and in my humble opinion, it is awesome. For those that have been living under a rock - it was announced a few weeks ago that Daft Punk would have their own in-game skins and cosmetics, and that there would be a game mode dedicated entirely to their work. So, last night - me and a bunch of others from French house collective Creux La Nuit (in particular - Guv'nor Funk, Opierm, Luv4Loop and DJ Supernick - Sboulouf Le Detective came in for the minigames!) joined forces and explored the event together. What followed was a night of practical chaos, but a lot of fun - here's what went down at this killer event! The Daft Punk Experience opened with players being taken through a portal directly up into space - while Contact - the final song from Daft Punk's legendary final album Random Access Memories played. Then, players flew directly through an...
