New Drops and News: December 1st - 5th

What's up everyone - welcome back at the discotheque.

Usually, I always do promotion posts at the end of a week - but seeing as it's Friday (and there's been a ton of amazing stuff that's happened to kick off December) - I feel like a new post is totally needed - so get ready for some dope stuff, readers!

Let's get started!

DJ Supernick - Groovin' Games
On December 4th, Texas based filter house producer and bloghouse aficionado DJ Supernick released his debut album through legendary collective Creux La Nuit. Made over a matter of months throughout 2025 - this album is truly incredible. It's a wild, slightly crazy ride through all kinds of things - jazz, nu disco, at times, lo-fi hip hop (yes, I'm being completely serious here!) and of course, that sweet, sweet funky French goodness that we've become accustomed to.

There's so much stuff to unpack in this album - it's consistently funky, at times extremely strange (take Jazzing At Night for example, which Nick himself described as "ADHD jazz...) - and above all, it's vibrant, effortlessly groovy (pun slightly intended there!) and chaotic in the best way.

My favourite tracks include This Way - a simple, filter led jam which feels reminiscent of the early work of The Disko Starz, and would be a perfect track to release on Josh Hubi's Beatism label - There's Something - a chilled, lo-fi hip hop excursion that's begging for a classic 90s rapper - the album's main single Virtuosity, which feels like a brilliant mix between the sounds of nu disco; ambient and deep house - and finally, the excellent remix of Never Knew by DJ Dion, which feels club ready with its punchy production, heavy bass synthesis and chops.

You can find the album on Bandcamp now - upon purchasing, you'll unlock a bunch of bonus tracks too!

THAT'S MATT! - Gin and Platonic
Released just in time for the last Bandcamp Friday of the year - Gin and Platonic is the brand new album from everyone's favourite funk led cowboy THAT'S MATT! - and his final disco orientated project for the time being. Filled with gorgeous production built from glamour, booze and lawlessness - this album truly is fantastic, and it's stuffed with tons of epic bangers and cracking singles (some of which have already been covered here!)

As said in Gin and Platonic's interlude Sequin - every generation creates its own heroes - and for the future funk scene - Matt undeniably has become one of the greatest heroes to come out of it. Right from the get-go, listeners are treated to barrels of expertly produced, funky, punchy jams with glittery, 80s influence sprinkled throughout - some of which would slot into the work of SebastiAn, some of which would fit perfectly at parties or in Real Love Music playlists - and some that would go down very well in New York based discotheques of the 70s and early 80s. There's some fantastic cuts on Gin and Platonic which stand out to me - the obviously glamorous and bad-ass classic Red State Romeo - Drank, the spaced out, yet hypnotic, party ready banger, and finally, the brilliant, bass-heavy future classic Angel Adore, which feels like a quirky, yet welcome mix between the work of Evil Stereo and ID Chief.

If all of this wasn't already enough for you, Gin and Platonic boasts some incredible collaborations with artists such as Lipstick Lover, Hopeful Romantics and modern future funk legend Rhodes Rhodesu - all of these tracks are amazing, and they ooze with flamboyant quality - which you'd (very obviously) expect from the legendary disco cowboy.

Go and grab Gin and Platonic now - you can get it digitally or on limited edition cassette through iconic American label Business Casual.

ATD Presents: dreamer eighty seven and broken embraces (and Luv4Loop) LIVE!
Completely done out of the blue - on December 3rd, me, my good friend Broken Embraces and a special guest (that being the legend Luv4Loop) hosted a mini-DJ event through the Bloghouse Revival Discord server, in which we each played a half-an-hour set back to back - and Lee did a special 15-minute one to round the event off.

I opened the event by playing half an hour of exclusively blog-era disco, filter house and French funky goodness - alongside a few electro house cuts for good measure (ahem, lots of early Fake Blood!) - Broken Embraces leaned mostly on the French electro side (opening, bravely with a shortened edit of Threnody by SebastiAn) but he also stuck some filter house cuts in there too - such as the killer remix done by Vanguard of Enough Time by The Ghosts - and Luv4Loop made the most of his 15 minutes by delivering an insane set featuring the likes of La Zebra, Ian Pooley. Empire of The Sun and Go Go Biskitt! to name a few!

All in all - it was a super dope way to turn a boring Wednesday night into a sweet little party - and thanks to everyone that tuned in!

You can grab the 320 MP3s of every set, plus all of the track listings on MediaFire now.

Danny and Mike Parton - Jolene 09
Also released just in time for Bandcamp Friday - the ninth release on up and coming French house / nu disco label Jolene is the three things that you want every new release to be - fresh, party ready and insanely funky - making it a perfect thing to stick in your record bag this cold December. Across this EP's (excellent) four tracks, Danny and Mike capture the late 90s French touch sound expertly - and I can imagine if it was released in 1998-1999 - it would have been spun by countless legendary DJs and dare I say - even Daft Punk before they became the robots we all know and love.

There are zero skips on this EP - every single track is filtered to pure perfection and built from the ground up with punchy production, groovy drum work, excellent sampling technique (and a whole lot of finesse!) - Mike's contributions to Jolene 09 feel like long lost classics that would have been great for legendary Parisian label Versatile, thanks to how smooth and silky they are, while Danny's contributions ooze with joy and fun - "Blute" feels like a happy, modern, club-ready twist on the work of Treasure Fingers, and the EP's closer (and my personal favourite) "Daryl" would have instantly been a staple in any Le Knight Club set thanks to its lo-fi production,

In short - this EP is brilliant. DJs, you know what to do!

Musanoise - Telephone
Released independently - Telephone is the brilliant debut single from Peru-based producer Musanoise - formerly known as Itami Dakusu. Telephone feels like an incredibly clever hybrid between nu disco, future funk and French touch - it's extremely smooth, effortlessly fun and exciting - it has some fantastic instrumentation (the chops and the chords are absolutely fantastic, my goodness!) - and if I had to describe it, this single feels like a mix between Alan Braxe, Moe Shop and Night Tempo - getting the biggest thumbs up from me!

You can find it on Bandcamp.

There you have it, everyone!

As always, be sure to support all of the artists featured on today's post - and keep enjoying your stay at the discotheque!

What musicians, producers and artists inspire you the most in your work overall? It changes everyday. Seriously. Inspiration can come from anywhere. A lot depends on my mood or my headspace. It’s just knowing where to pull from. If it’s a Funk song, it’s t...
