Drops from late July / early August!

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque! As I always seem to say - the last couple of weeks have been absolutely monumental for French house, future funk, disco and electro house - so much so, that today's promotion post is likely one of the biggest on the blog so far - as there's a huge stack of A-list releases from a massive range of people - including some legends, many underground stalwarts and also lots of new people who I've never blogged about before, so buckle your seat belts - this, is going to be a big one! Let's get started! Moe Shop - EVO EVO (B-SIDE) To kick this post off in a rather strong fashion, I wanted to talk about the brand new release from France born, Tokyo-based producer and track-maker Moe Shop, who came in hot last Saturday with a digital release of the exclusive tracks present on the CD version of their latest EP - EVO EVO - and readers, I'd like to assure you that this is an absolutely awesome companion to an already stunning EP, c...

Review: Dewdropper by Pad Chennington

Released through independent Wales-based-label My Pet Flamingo in December 2019 - the sophomore album from American YouTuber, music fanatic, DJ and producer Pad Chennington - who initially shot to fame a few years prior for his explorative deep dives into underground music - is an absolutely brilliant, and incredibly fun and playful record that manages to expertly meld the sounds of future funk and choppy, tight French house, with a few slower excursions thrown in there for good measure - that boasts an extremely impressive line-up of collaborators and serves as a major step forward in almost every way from his debut album Contrast, which I thought would be pretty hard to top after lots of listens! I initially discovered Pad's incredible music a couple of years ago after watching a plethora of his amazing YouTube videos that were focused on the genres explored in this album, however I only managed to give this record a full listen a few months back, and boy, was I impressed. The fi...

Drops and news from the last two weeks of July!

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque! It's now the end of July (holy crap, where did all of the time go?) - and as per usual, the last two weeks were stacked full of absolutely incredible releases and lots of news - so much so, that if I had to add on the drops from the last few days, we'd be here for hours, so I'll be doing a separate post for them. There's some debuts on the blog, several anticipated returns and a super eclectic mix of stuff today, so buckle your seat belts - this is going to be a great one! Let's get started! Dequame - Seaside To kick this post off strong, I want to talk about something that's a little bit different from the stuff usually covered on the blog, and that comes in the form of French musician and producer Dequame's brand new EP, which was released on legendary net-label Creux La Nuit on July 25th. A far cry from his usual house productions - Seaside is an absolutely incredible record that borrows from the early 80s c...

Interview: The Phantom's Revenge

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque! Today, we have an extremely special person in the blog's virtual hot seat - French master and house music legend The Phantom's Revenge - a pioneer of the late 2000s filter house scene who has influenced pretty much everyone in the modern filter house scene - and has since released for legendary labels such as Nervous, La Valigetta, Happiness Therapy and Montaime, remixed the likes of Peking Duk, Grum, Calvin Harris and Moullinex amongst many others, released several epic mixtapes which have received acclaim, he has millions of streams across various platforms - and he has played in over forty cities in a career that spans almost two decades and counting. It is an absolute honor, to have him on the blog - and without further ado, I'll let him do the talking! For those who don’t know you – who are you, where are you from, and what music do you make? Hi, I’m Anthony, I’m from NĂ®mes in the south of France - I have been making musi...

Review: Delta Disco by Strip Steve

I've only been a fan of France born, Berlin-based producer and DJ Strip Steve for a couple of months - which is something I'm slightly ashamed to admit, as he flew under my radar for far, far too long, and his sophomore EP - which was released through BNR in October 2009 - is an absolutely brilliant five tracker which manages to blend hard-hitting French house, the late 90s American sound, acid and electro with dashes of hip-hop and breakbeat influence to boot - and, as to be expected, I was instantly hooked, largely because it's extremely fun, at many points rambunctious yet effortlessly stylish, and above all - it has the power to completely destroy clubs almost seventeen years after its initial release - which is why this EP has stayed firmly in my digital DJ crate since my first few listens! I suppose that's not really a surprise though. Seeing as he grew up on funk, disco, rap, Daft Punk's seminal debut album Homework and one of his heroes is Chicago legend R...

Drops from the first half of July!

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque! Today officially marks the return of bi-weekly promotion posts (woo, finally!) - and I'm super excited to talk about some of the awesome drops that have surfaced over the last two weeks - because quite frankly, there's been a ton of epic new music from, as per usual, a ton of awesome, awesome people. If this is anything to go by, July is looking to be a damn fine month! Let's begin! La Voyage - Feel The Need After an eight month hiatus - the legendary duo La Voyage - which pays tribute to iconic Welsh duo Vanguard came back in full force last Saturday with an absolutely brilliant new single that manages to capture the early 2010s French house sound with ease, while sounding effortlessly catchy, clean and so, so damn awesome. Building on from the ground covered with their brilliant remixes, singles and a classic EP on Creux La Nuit which was released last summer, Feel The Need features all of the same whistles and bells that li...
