Drops and news from the last two weeks of February!

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque! We're now about to enter March - and since my time away from the blog - there's been loads of amazing new releases from tons of amazing people. We have some epic returns, dope new cuts, some incredible announcements / news and to sum it up - these last two weeks have been some of the best since ATD began - so be sure to buckle your seat belts - this is gonna be a dope one! Let's get started! Lady Stark - Sugar Girl Released everywhere last Friday - Sugar Girl is the incredible new single from Argentina based producer Lady Stark, which oozes with a ridiculous amount of quality. It's an insanely bright, deeply melodic crossover between the sweet sounds of future funk and filter house which is incredibly tight, impactful and so, so much fun - sampling Calloway damn near perfectly. To me, Sugar Girl feels like a very healthy blend between the filtery sounds of various Parisian house acts, and the styles of ID Chief and Cape Co...

What I've Been Listening To: February 2026

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque! We've reached the end of another month (jeez, time is going by too quickly for my liking...) - and it's time for another lowdown of the stuff I've been listening to over the last four weeks. While last month was a healthy mix of future funk, French house and electro - this month was a little different, as I leaned heavily on the late 90s filter house sound (with a few odd blog-era bits thrown in there for good measure!) Let's get started! Superfunk - Hold Up (2000) To start this post off strong - I wanted to talk about the debut album from legendary French trio Superfunk. Released through Fiat Lux and Virgin at the peak of French touch's first wave - this is an extremely solid LP full of thumping, high quality, filter disco club jams, a strong cut n' paste aesthetic throughout, loads of fat beats and buckets of hip hop influence littered everywhere. I recently found this album at a local record store - so I bought ...

Interview: Guv'nor Funk

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque! For the last post of the week - we have an amazing new talent in the ATD virtual hot seat today - Canadian producer and DJ Guv'nor Funk. He's best known for his two awesome albums - released through legendary independent collective Creux La Nuit - as one quarter of Teenage Discoloids - his cracking DJ sets, filled with thumping club jams - and his extremely active presence in the modern French house community. With all of this in mind, he had to come on the blog sooner or later! So, without further ado - I'll let him do the talking! For those who don’t know you – who are you, where are you from – and what music do you make? Hello, I am Guv'nor Funk, I am an electronic music producer from Canada, I make mostly house and sometimes Detroit Techno as that's around the region where I'm from. You recently released your brilliant new album All In – can you tell us a bit more about the production process? Of course, All In...

My (very long) history with Daft Punk!

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque! For today's post - I wanted to do something a little bit different. A few days ago, I wrote about how I got into French house music (and a bunch of the adjacent genres which are also featured on the blog!) - and in that post, I only very briefly mentioned the greatest duo to ever grace French touch - and possibly electronic music - Daft Punk. They've been my heroes for several years now - and also my biggest inspiration musically - so, in today's post, I'd like to shine a light on how I found them, my favourite tracks and my (quite long) history with them. Without further ado - let's get started! Okay, so - a lot of you readers might think that I initially discovered Thomas and Guy-Man through all of the usual hits - One More Time, Harder Better Faster Stronger, Technologic, Robot Rock, you know the drill - but in fact. it was the opposite - as when I was around eight years old - in 2017, I discovered Crescendolls (the...

Review: Anachronism by Mr. Hoosteen

Released through his legendary underground label OMEAC in April 2018 - New York based producer, visual artist and DJ Mr. Hoosteen's debut album Anachronism is a cracking listen, which is riveting, exciting, daring and above all - very, very fun. Just like his sophomore record No Time 2 Lose - Anachronism is a seamless, epic journey from start to finish - however, instead of the smooth, nu disco influenced grooves present - this record shows a darker, slightly less polished side to his work - making it all the more interesting and quirky. If No Time 2 Lose was Mr. Hoosteen's equivalent to Discovery - then Anachronism is his Homework. Although, at heart, this is meant to be a French house record (and there is plenty of groove and funk to go around!) - as stated above, Anachronism is a much darker record in tone - as throughout the hour and a half this album lasts - listeners are treated to the usual disco and filter house - but also raw, uncompromising acid techno, sleek ...

How did I get into French house / future funk / disco?

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque! We're now just about halfway through the blog's first anniversary week - and for today's post, I thought I'd shine a light on how I got into French house, future funk and disco - and talk about the artists, releases and labels that helped me discover all of this incredible music and the amazing scenes revolving around it. It's been an oddly long journey - and I hope you enjoy reading about my adventures in disco-led music so far! Without further ado, let's get started! THE BEGINNING: (2018-2020) Okay, so before we actually dig deep into how I found all of this great music - I think some context is needed. Let's go back to the summer of 2019. I had just turned ten years old, and at the time I was having my eyes opened to all sorts of fantastic electronic music - people such as The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, Basement Jaxx and The Chemical Brothers had dominated my listening habits for months by this point, and I was e...

Review: Super Soaker EP by Louis La Roche

Released through his label Ever After in December 2009 - Norwich-based producer, singer-songwriter and DJ Louis La Roche's third EP truly is such an incredible release - and although it's short - it packs a massive punch in around ten minutes with three supercharged filter house classics with just the right amount of groove, loose funk and slamming production. I've been listening to it heavily for the last six months, and just like his other major releases from his formative years as a French house producer, this EP oozes with magnificent quality. Super Soaker's opener Malfunction proves that excellently - it's a deep, heavy and slightly hypnotic club workout stuffed with fantastic vocal chops and light, airy synths which feels like an extremely welcome crossover between the work featured on Daft Punk's first two albums - while also calling on the work of various late 90s house legends such as Paul Johnson and Roy Davis with the thumping beats and superb product...
