Drops from the second week of November!

What's up everyone - welcome back at the discotheque.

We're now mid-way through November (seriously, where does all of the time go?) and just like last week - there's been barrels of incredible new releases from so many awesome people everywhere. Buckle your seat belts - because this week has been epic - let's get started!

CitrikkAcid and blip_ - Imparable
Released through legendary underground collective Nuixante on November 7th - Imparable is the fantastic new single from CitrikkAcid and blip_ - two of the finest producers to grace future funk and French house. Imparable is, at heart - an extremely fun, epic filter house banger which reminds me of the early work of Louis La Roche (Distant Lovers, anyone?) while borrowing from the sounds of early 2000s French house - it's funky, has one of the most killer bass lines of the year and some dope talk-box / vocoder action to boot.

In short - this is music for summer, long days at the beach, or for late 90s Parisian clubs and house parties. Don't miss it. It is available through Nuixante's Bandcamp now.

CyanBlue - From Out Of The Blue
Released through iconic netlabel Business Casual today - From Out Of The Blue is the cracking new album from Canadian future funk producer CyanBlue - and boy, it is fantastic. Across ten excellent tracks, the legendary producer showcases his talent sharply with tons of club ready jams, punchy bangers and as always - incredible sampling techniques and a whole lot of style. Boasting collaborations with Seth Nova, Midnight Drift, FrankJavCee, Future Funk Monthly, Malena and Bejamin Lawrence - this release is packed with awesome names who contribute with gorgeous instrumentation (the sax on Falling is absolutely incredible!) - adding to this already amazing piece of work.

My personal favourites on this new album include Look No Further - a punchy and incredibly funky banger that reminds me slightly of You Set Me Free - a single from 2017 initially released through Nightfall featuring ev.exi - LOVECAN (featuring Midnight Drift) - a joyful, tightly produced future classic that wouldn't sound out of place on FIBRE's 2014-2016 - and finally, the hip hop influenced Let's Stay Together - featuring some beautiful instrumentation, relaxing vibes and great vocal work from Seth Nova. That being said - there's still plenty of dope tracks in here - making it one of the most exciting album releases in the future funk scene this year - go and grab it!

You can find it through Business Casual's Bandcamp page - where it is available digitally and on cassette.

Danny Brown and Underscores - Copycats (SHPESHFTR Remix)
Moving away from the sweet funky sounds of the previous two releases on this post - on November 10th. everyone's favourite Ontario based bloghouse producer SHPESHFTR dropped a monster of a remix - a pounding, epic and frankly insane edit of Danny Brown and Underscores' Copycats which packs, potentially the universe's biggest punch.

As always, SHPESHFTR brings his signature mix of bass heavy synthesis, choppy, pounding beats, a whole lot of distortion and killer sampling skills - (who can spot the samples and callbacks to his previous work?) - and above all, it's an insane return from one of bloghouse's freshest new talents. Go and grab the single now through Bandcamp.

Corrout and blip_ - Go-Go-Groove!
Released through legendary label Coraspect Media Group today - Go-Go-Groove is the brand new collaborative album from At The Discotheque's resident Australians - blip_ and Corrout. Across this release's 13 tracks - the listener is taken on a fantastically produced journey through classic future funk, anime groove, modern J-pop and great cuts inspired by French house and the nu-disco movement - alongside plenty of quirky bonuses and great moments, which are stuffed everywhere. This album, at heart - is modern future funk at it's finest - Go-Go-Groove is relentlessly jubilant, exceedingly fun and in general, an absolute pleasure to listen to.

My favourite tracks on this dazzling new release include Six - a J-pop influenced banger with thumping production and dope beats - making it a slightly quirky, yet openly awesome track to drop in the middle of your sets for some variation - the excellent future funk hip hop hybrid Rhythm, featuring Argentina's resident funk master Zai Kowen - the effortlessly groovy Dawn featuring A-Bug, and finally, the brilliant Round and Round - a brilliant J-pop / anime groove / future funk track which feels perfect for those upcoming spring days.

You can find Go-Go-Groove through Coraspect's Bandcamp page - where, alongside ordering it digitally, you can grab it on limited edition vinyl and cassette now.

Party Night - Step Back
Everybody's favourite Guatemalan future funk / house producer Party Night has been on an absolute roll recently - and his new single Step Back proves this excellently. A funky, punchy single with some incredibly fine production - with some added glamour to really do the job - Step Back sounds like a serious homage to the sounds of French house, while bringing some sweet modern vibes. The guy can do no wrong!

Find it on SoundCloud here!

Mr. Oizo - Jo (dreamer '87 Edit)
To end this post out - I thought I'd just briefly mention my brand new edit of Mr. Oizo's choppy, blog era banger Jo - complete with a whole lot of low end (well, as much as I could bring without it sounding too muddy, haha!) and some frantic synth work and tons of chops. I'm super proud of it, and if you haven't checked it out yet, please do - feedback is greatly appreciated!

There you have it, everyone!

Be sure to go and support all of the artists featured on this post - thank you for reading, and as always - keep enjoying your stay at the discotheque.

Crydamoure is back (technically)

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque. For today's post, I thought I'd write about something a little bit different. Over the last nine months or so, a small group of independent producers have been making waves in the French house scene for a simple reason - they're bringing back the sound of legendary French label Crydamoure with style. If you've been living under a rock for the past few decades - or are relatively new to the French house scene - Crydamoure was the record label ran by Guy-Man (one half of legendary duo Daft Punk) and Rico Chedeville between 1997 and 2003. In it's years of operation, it quickly became one of the most respected labels of its time - releasing several EPs and singles which became classics - from fantastic artists such as DJ Sneak, Paul Johnson, Play Paul, Sedat and Archigram, alongside Rico and Guy-Man themselves, under the alias "Le Knight Club" All of the records released through Crydamoure are of the highest orde...

Interview: Ghosts of Venice

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque! It's been a hot minute since there was an interview on the blog - and to make up for that, tonight we have somebody extremely special in the virtual hot seat - the incredible Ghosts of Venice. Known for his illustrious career spanning over a decade and a half - he's released on some of house music's biggest labels, produced some of the hottest tracks and remixes around, has over a billion streams under his belt - and he's also a pretty cracking DJ and promoter. With all of this in mind - I knew he had to get onto the blog! So, without further ado - I'll let him do the talking! For those who don’t know – who are you, what music do you make and where are you from?  My name is Lee Dunn, and I’ve gone by many monikers over the years, but most people know me as Ghosts of Venice. These days I mostly make Disco, and I’m from North Yorkshire, England. If you had to describe your sound to someone who’s never listened to your mu...
