Drops from the first week of November!

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque.

November is now upon us - and this last week has seen some absolutely incredible releases from some amazing artists. Although I think it'll be hard to outdo last month in terms of epicness - from how things have been shaping up this week - we're likely to see another incredible month - let's dive into the new releases!

Le Babar - Easy Love EP
Released through Brazilian label 294 on November 6th - Easy Love is the stunning new EP from Belgian producer Le Babar - known for his smooth, funky nu disco productions as of recent - and also for his contributions to the blog era of French house - he used to run legendary label GrooveTraxx back in the day!

This brand new EP is absolutely gorgeous - it's nu disco of the highest order - filled with rich, soulful instrumentation, extremely funky tracks which will - no doubt, light up clubs and festivals over the coming months - and most importantly, it's one of the most jubilant releases to come out this year. There's lots of different moods and vibes here - the opening, titular track is a glamorous, slow-going tour through one of Belgium's most impressive producers - Intentions is a brilliant, glitzy banger with delightful vocal work from L U and brilliant synth work - Sweet Nothing (my personal favourite on the record) is a fantastic disco house workout with some beautiful compositional features (the Rhodes are absolutely angelic!) - and it reminds me heavily of Mr. Hoosteen's work - which is a massive plus - and finally, Moodswing is a bright, energetic disco house track stuffed with effortless grooves and buckets of joy.

In short, this new EP is absolutely fantastic - and a must have for anyone who wants something bright, funky - at times, sexy - and above all, fun.

You can find this brand new EP on all good streaming services - I'll link the Spotify and Traxsource pages here.

Chicks On Speed - Mind Your Own Business (Broken Embraces Edit)
Stepping away from the smooth disco sounds of Le Babar's new EP - the new remix from Uruguay's finest bloghouse producer Broken Embraces graced us on November 4th. Independently released through SoundCloud - this edit has everything that Broken Embraces has become known for - this remix is fast, extremely brash and heavy - and features the now iconic, pounding synth work that he's become synonymous with - and extremely dense, punchy production.

Side note to all of the DJs reading this - if you want something darker to get everyone going - stick this in your crate - and then go and thank Broken Embraces in the comments (be sure to link a YouTube video of you dropping it with the crowd going mental in 360p for that 2008 effect!)

MACROSS 82-99 - Higher Vibes EP
On November 5th - the future funk scene saw the return of one of its greatest purveyors - Mexico born, Japan based producer MACROSS 82-99 came in hot with his brand new EP Higher Vibes, which contains three absolutely killer tracks built for clubs and DJ sets. Stuffed to the brim with fantastic sampling techniques, thumping beats, some obvious trap influences and a whole lot of style - this is a release you cannot miss. My personal favourite on this EP is Party Groovin' - an infectious, catchy French house influenced track which was initially released on the 10th anniversary edition of A Million Miles Away through Neoncity Records. The other two tracks on this fantastic EP - Higher Vibes and Higher Energy are just as good.

Higher Vibes - the opener for the EP, is a short, yet sweet ditty with lots of fantastic, frenetic chopping - reminding me heavily of Drugs by Aests - while the EP's closer Higher Energy is an expertly produced French house jam which reminds me heavily of the late 2000s era of the genre - it has slight elements of nostalgic sentimentality - while still being fun and quirky in the styles of Calembour and Lebatman, with a fresh modern twist!

You can find Higher Vibes here!

Del4y - Dynamite
Released independently through SoundCloud on November 4th - Dynamite is the fantastic new future funk single from Mexican producer Del4y. Dynamite is an extremely awesome, glittery future classic with some great production, heavy beats and enough joy to power a damn city. To add - and I know I say this a lot for great future funk releases - but this could have easily been a key fixture during the golden ages of future funk - filed next to the work of Aloe Island Posse, ID Chief and AnTgry - which makes this new single a perfect one for those missing that golden Artzie era of the genre. In short - it's a great new track, with some dope sample selection and even glossier production, so go and give it a spin!

There you have it, everyone!

Crydamoure is back (technically)

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque. For today's post, I thought I'd write about something a little bit different. Over the last nine months or so, a small group of independent producers have been making waves in the French house scene for a simple reason - they're bringing back the sound of legendary French label Crydamoure with style. If you've been living under a rock for the past few decades - or are relatively new to the French house scene - Crydamoure was the record label ran by Guy-Man (one half of legendary duo Daft Punk) and Rico Chedeville between 1997 and 2003. In it's years of operation, it quickly became one of the most respected labels of its time - releasing several EPs and singles which became classics - from fantastic artists such as DJ Sneak, Paul Johnson, Play Paul, Sedat and Archigram, alongside Rico and Guy-Man themselves, under the alias "Le Knight Club" All of the records released through Crydamoure are of the highest orde...

Interview: Ghosts of Venice

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque! It's been a hot minute since there was an interview on the blog - and to make up for that, tonight we have somebody extremely special in the virtual hot seat - the incredible Ghosts of Venice. Known for his illustrious career spanning over a decade and a half - he's released on some of house music's biggest labels, produced some of the hottest tracks and remixes around, has over a billion streams under his belt - and he's also a pretty cracking DJ and promoter. With all of this in mind - I knew he had to get onto the blog! So, without further ado - I'll let him do the talking! For those who don’t know – who are you, what music do you make and where are you from?  My name is Lee Dunn, and I’ve gone by many monikers over the years, but most people know me as Ghosts of Venice. These days I mostly make Disco, and I’m from North Yorkshire, England. If you had to describe your sound to someone who’s never listened to your mu...
