New Drops and News: January 3rd - 16th

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque.

It's been around two weeks since the last promotion post here on the blog - and since then, there's been a massive amount of new releases that have dropped - alongside some pretty awesome announcements and news - and I hope to cover them in today's post in the best way I can!

So, without further ado - let's get started!

Nickster - Mosaica
To kick this post off - I wanted to shine a light on the brilliant debut album from Nickster - the Miani-based producer who came in hot with Mosaica - a stunning collection of French touch influenced, sample heavy jams which ooze with quality. Released on Business Casual yesterday - this album is versatile, fun and extremely awesome - it's ridiculously punchy - mirroring some of the seminal work that came out on Ed Banger in the late 2000s - and although we're only a few weeks into the year - I have a feeling that this will stand among some of the year's best releases.

There's so much to pick out this album, and I'm a little unsure where to start - so I'll begin with some of my favourite tracks - my personal favourite on this record is You're Crazy! - an effortlessly funky, sun kissed, club ready track with some incredible sample chopping which feels reminiscent of Truman Truman's work - the raucous Slide - filled with pounding, dark electro house synthesis and glitchy, frenetic production - and even the album's three interludes - which cleverly switch between filter house, ambient, musak and electro with a surprising amount of ease.

Despite the strong amount of blog-era influence in this record - there's also a healthy dose of future funk in there too - the most prime examples I can think of are the brilliant Phone Me - done with one of the genre's finest talents, Mere Notilde - and the summery, future classic cities - which I bet will end up on Real Love Music at some point. If anyone's willing to bet money on it, tell me in the comments below this post!

In short, this album is absolutely fantastic - and if you're looking for something a little different to spin to get rid of those January blues - go and grab the album.

You can find it now on Bandcamp, either through Nickster's personal page - or through Business Casual - where you can grab the limited edition CD.

BarbWalters - Accelerate
Released independently through SoundCloud on January 14th - the new single from everyone's favourite Boston-based future funk maestro BarbWalters dropped - and it is absolutely fantastic. Starting off the new year with a bang - Accelerate is an extremely funky and glittery track with a ridiculous bassline that could rival Alan Braxe and Fred Falke - slamming production, making it built for DJs - and, rather aptly - it's fast, exciting and very, very fun!

(All you need now is a sweet sports car to blast this in...)

You can find it on SoundCloud now!

Pre-order Luv4Loop's brand new album now!
Yes, you read that right - on January 15th - Liverpool based producer, DJ, multi-instrumentalist and ATD icon Luv4Loop opened up pre-orders for his fantastic new album What Has Gotten Into You? - which is dropping through legendary collective Creux La Nuit.

You can now grab it through Bandcamp digitally - or through ElasticStage - where you can grab it on vinyl and CD.

I can't say much - but what I can promise you, is that it is a genuinely stunning record. Be there when it drops on February 1st.

Wire One - New York Missile Club / Face Off
Moving away from the sweet, funky disco-led sounds that have dominated this post so far - on January 9th - New York-based label Purple came in with cannons firing - as we were treated to two new bangers from Detroit's finest electro house producer Wire One.

Believe me when I say that this release is genuinely insane - both tracks are golden slices of blog-era electro house, packed with dense, heavy production, incredibly impressive sound design, thick synthesis and slamming production - making them a perfect fit for ridiculous parties, physics-defying action sequences or sweaty basement club nights. If you thought The Dare was the most bad-ass guy reviving sleazy electro house - you might want to think again after giving this a spin.

Side note to all of the DJs - you know exactly what to do. After playing Face Off in a club - you'll see exactly what I mean. It'll turn any boring dance floor into a mosh pit.

You can find this epic new release on all good streaming services - but I'm going to link the YouTube upload here!

Artemis Morte - Same Old Person, Brand New Mistakes
Building onto the topic of bloghouse - on January 12th - the man behind the dark side of OMEAC Records (and the same guy that's single-handedly giving London the finest in electro house!) - Artemis Morte - unleashed a killer track that was initially produced in 2023.

A bad-ass, ridiculous and slightly rambunctious weapon filled with tight, heavy production and a healthy dosage of funk - this would have fit perfectly into a set from SebastiAn during his late 2000s heyday - and it truly is a marvelous piece of work!

You can find it on SoundCloud now!

Sabrina Carpenter - Tears (FIJI島の水's Future Funk Edit)
Released independently on January 14th - Atlanta-based producer and DJ FIJI's debut future funk track comes in the form of a killer edit of Tears by Sabrina Carpenter - and let me tell you, it is brilliant. This edit completely transforms the original track effortlessly from a slick, nu disco anthem into a glitzy, loose and glamorous workout. It's extremely well produced - and I can almost guarantee that it'll likely become one of the highlights of the month.

Go and give it a spin on Bandcamp!

Opierm - Asking Me
Building onto the topic of Creux La Nuit in this post (as mentioned above with Luv4Loop's new album...) - the next few releases shown are going to be from its members - and what better way to start this segment off with the brand new single from head honcho Opierm.

Asking Me is the textbook definition of what French house is - this new single, although short - is extremely tight, incredibly funky and built for destroying clubs. A masterful flip of A Man In Love by Dynasty - while the original sample is slow, smooth and romantic - Asking Me flips the script completely to make it energetic, rambunctious and incredibly fun - and furthermore - the full release, which is now available on SoundCloud - includes a slamming, filtery remix from Wedro Pintre - and a jittery, summery remix from me!

Check it out now!

Hackosef - Jasmin Flowerz
Released on January 12th as the first single from her next album - Hackosef's latest outing - Jasmin Flowerz - is a brilliant house track that oozes with late 90s filter house influences, thumping production and above all - it's addicting, bold and ridiculously catchy. A very welcome mix between French filter house and the deep, hypnotic Chicago house sound - this single wouldn't sound out of place in sets from those such as The Director, DJ Sneak or even Daft Punk in their Homework era - which obviously means it's ridiculously killer!

You can find it on SoundCloud now.

Drift - At The Party (Myd Remix)
Now, this was a lovely surprise on the 16th.

Released through independent label Animal53 on Friday - the new remix of At The Party by Drift from Ed Banger artist Myd - who's fresh off of the back of his new album released in August - is absolutely brilliant. Unlike the original - a smooth, sultry, funk jam - this remix is a club-ready slice of acid house infused with nu-disco influences which is ridiculously punchy, dark and sexy - and it reminds me heavily of the work of Mr. Hoosteen or The Chemical Brothers. A massive thumbs up from me!

You can find it on all good streaming services - but I'm going to link the YouTube here!

There you have it, everyone!

Thank you for reading today's post - as always, be sure to support all of the artists featured - and as always, keep enjoying your stay at the discotheque.

Hello everyone - welcome back at the discotheque. Today's post is extremely special - as we get to hear from UK based nu disco, pop and French house producer Louis La Roche - a veteran in the French house scene of the late 2000s and an extremely accomplished musician in his own right - with his work amassing tens of millions of streams and a heavy amount of incredible remixes under his belt. It is an honor to get him onto the blog! Without further ado, I'll let him do the talking! For those that don’t know you – who are you, and what music do you make? I’m Brett Francis Ewels, I’m a DJ/Producer from the UK. I started my career making French Touch inspired music, which has slowly evolved into Nu Disco and Pop over the years. What musicians, producers and artists inspire you the most in your work overall? It changes everyday. Seriously. Inspiration can come from anywhere. A lot depends on my mood or my headspace. It’s just knowing where to pull from. If it’s a Funk song, it’s t...
