New Releases, News and Cool Things: 30/4/25

Okay, holy crap.  I seem to say this in pretty much all of my "end of month" posts, but man, time really is ticking by extremely quickly - in the time I've been away from the blog, plenty of stuff has gone down in various respective scenes - let's talk about some of the bits from the last couple of days here at the discotheque. It's no surprise to anyone that Creux La Nuit (the collective founded by Opierm in late 2023) is making some catastrophic waves in the scene right now, with April becoming the label's busiest month with several releases - the flagship one of the month being volume three of their shared compilations. Featuring many talented and accomplished French house artists such as Da Syncopator. Opierm, Sboulouf Le Detective, CitrikkAcid, Akoo, DJ Double Dutch and Future0s (plus the many more featured on the cover above!) - this compilation is stuffed to the brim with heavy hitters and great jams. Definitely one to bump during summer. Futhermore, t...

Review: Daft Punk's Homework

" WDPK 83.7 - the sound of tomorrow, t he music of today - brings you exclusively Daft Punk's Homework!" Released in January 1997, Daft Punk's debut album is nothing short of incredible, and it's been one of my personal favourites for almost six years. Sure, it certainly isn't as polished as the bubbly, colourful Discovery or the groundbreaking masterpiece that was Random Access Memories, but what is presented is a brilliant debut which brought worldwide attention to French house and destroyed dancefloors for several years after release - and for very good reason. Produced between 1994-1996 at Thomas' Bangalter's house and released when the duo were in their early twenties, Homework was made on what the duo considered to be "cheap" equipment "very quickly" while they were trying to do "cool things" as stated by the band themselves during a 1997 interview. The equipment used includes multiple Roland synths and drum machin...

News, Releases and Cool Stuff: 11/4/25

What's up everyone - welcome back to at the discotheque. Over the last two weeks, we've seen some incredibly awesome things happen in the French house / future funk scenes, respectively. It is a very exciting time to be a fan of this incredible music. This post is going to cover some new releases, but also some exciting news and possibly some unreleased projects. First off, today future funk legends FIBRE, Macross 82-99 and greenteawasted are playing a show at the Baltimore Soundstage as part of YOI TOKI. Expect some absolute heat from three legends in the scene, and a very good time. All I have to say is - for anyone heading there tonight, have a great one, and to the DJs - best of luck to you three, I'm sure you'll do amazingly. You guys are going to rock. Building onto that - today several remixes of "Blame it on the DJ" - originally done by Discoholic and DATAGIRL dropped at all good online music retailers. All of the remixes provided are absolutely fanta...

Interview: Opierm

Hey, fellow readers! Today I have an extremely special person joining the hot seat at ATD - Up and coming filter house producer Opierm. He's making a name for himself in the scene through his undeniable talent behind the boards, along with appearing in multiple groups such as Le Disko Wave and Miss Phantom. He's also the head of Creux La Nuit - a collective focused on bringing back French house in style.  Anyway, enough of me talking - let's hear it from Opierm. For those that don’t know you – who are you, and what music do you make? Hello, my name is Opierm (real name Patrick) - I try my best at making French House and sometimes Lo-fi House. What artists got you into French house, and who inspires you the most in your production? I'd say that DJ Falcon, Étienne De Crécy and almost all of Cryda and Roulé got me into French House. Honestly, Vanguard or The Phantom's Revenge inspire me the most in my recent works. If you had to take three albums to a desert island, ...
