Interview: Opierm

Hey, fellow readers!

Today I have an extremely special person joining the hot seat at ATD - Up and coming filter house producer Opierm. He's making a name for himself in the scene through his undeniable talent behind the boards, along with appearing in multiple groups such as Le Disko Wave and Miss Phantom. He's also the head of Creux La Nuit - a collective focused on bringing back French house in style.

Anyway, enough of me talking - let's hear it from Opierm.

For those that don’t know you – who are you, and what music do you make?

Hello, my name is Opierm (real name Patrick) - I try my best at making French House and sometimes Lo-fi House.

What artists got you into French house, and who inspires you the most in your production?

I'd say that DJ Falcon, Étienne De Crécy and almost all of Cryda and Roulé got me into French House. Honestly, Vanguard or The Phantom's Revenge inspire me the most in my recent works.

If you had to take three albums to a desert island, what would they be?

  • Shiny Disco Club - Millennium Disco Volume 2
  • The Phantom's Revenge - Original Tracks
  • Fred Falke - Part IV
Tell us more about your collective, Creux La Nuit.

Well, Creux La Nuit started in September 2023 - my goal with the collective was to sort of "revive" that 90s French House feel (didn't end up doing it up until mid 2024 I think?) at first it was just like a playground, but since we have been getting more recognized and known in the actual scene, we've been more serious.

What's your favourite food?

My favourite food is sushi.

What are your favourite video games?

I've stopped playing video games that much since I started focusing on music more, but could be Minecraft or Rocket League.

If you could have dinner with one artist, living or dead, who would it be?

I would definitely have dinner with DJ Mehdi, he seemed like such a nice guy to be around with, rest in peace.

What equipment do you use to make your beats?

Just my PC with Ableton and sometimes my MIDI equipment. (Novation Launchkey)

What advice would you give to aspiring filter house producers?

Remake stuff - it'll help you discover new techniques.

Any shoutouts you want to give?

Shoutout to the CLN family, my parents and everyone who likes my music :D

There you have it, everyone. You can go and find Opierm on all of the usual spots (SoundCloud, Spotify, Bandcamp, YouTube) and all of his side projects on various corners of the internet. I want to say a huge thank you to Opierm for letting me interview him - it's been a pleasure.

As always - keep enjoying your stay at the discotheque.

Crydamoure is back (technically)

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque. For today's post, I thought I'd write about something a little bit different. Over the last nine months or so, a small group of independent producers have been making waves in the French house scene for a simple reason - they're bringing back the sound of legendary French label Crydamoure with style. If you've been living under a rock for the past few decades - or are relatively new to the French house scene - Crydamoure was the record label ran by Guy-Man (one half of legendary duo Daft Punk) and Rico Chedeville between 1997 and 2003. In it's years of operation, it quickly became one of the most respected labels of its time - releasing several EPs and singles which became classics - from fantastic artists such as DJ Sneak, Paul Johnson, Play Paul, Sedat and Archigram, alongside Rico and Guy-Man themselves, under the alias "Le Knight Club" All of the records released through Crydamoure are of the highest orde...

Interview: Ghosts of Venice

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque! It's been a hot minute since there was an interview on the blog - and to make up for that, tonight we have somebody extremely special in the virtual hot seat - the incredible Ghosts of Venice. Known for his illustrious career spanning over a decade and a half - he's released on some of house music's biggest labels, produced some of the hottest tracks and remixes around, has over a billion streams under his belt - and he's also a pretty cracking DJ and promoter. With all of this in mind - I knew he had to get onto the blog! So, without further ado - I'll let him do the talking! For those who don’t know – who are you, what music do you make and where are you from?  My name is Lee Dunn, and I’ve gone by many monikers over the years, but most people know me as Ghosts of Venice. These days I mostly make Disco, and I’m from North Yorkshire, England. If you had to describe your sound to someone who’s never listened to your mu...
