Okay, holy crap.
I seem to say this in pretty much all of my "end of month" posts, but man, time really is ticking by extremely quickly - in the time I've been away from the blog, plenty of stuff has gone down in various respective scenes - let's talk about some of the bits from the last couple of days here at the discotheque.
It's no surprise to anyone that Creux La Nuit (the collective founded by Opierm in late 2023) is making some catastrophic waves in the scene right now, with April becoming the label's busiest month with several releases - the flagship one of the month being volume three of their shared compilations. Featuring many talented and accomplished French house artists such as Da Syncopator. Opierm, Sboulouf Le Detective, CitrikkAcid, Akoo, DJ Double Dutch and Future0s (plus the many more featured on the cover above!) - this compilation is stuffed to the brim with heavy hitters and great jams. Definitely one to bump during summer.
Futhermore, there's been some cracking releases lately for the collective - particularly today, with the release of:
My very own single Blades - a French house track heavily inspired by Justice with that classic filter house feel and a crap load of sample chops and drum trickery. You can find it on my SoundCloud, on CLN's YouTube and Spotify under my "dreamer eighty seven" alias.
We also have two BRAND NEW releases today - we've been blessed with Brazilian producer Le Sorv's debut EP release on CLN - titled You Take Me Away, which is a sweet little release with some fantastic grooves, dreamy production and lots of crunch (this is the pure definition of filter house right here, fellow readers!) - you can find the EP on Spotify and CLN's YouTube channel.
And, we also had a sweet new self titled EP release from Texas based producer and DJ Supernick - it's got some really funky tracks (My Love For The Funk Groove absolutely hits, it's so good!) some really tight drum work and mixing, and overall it's a super lovely treat that reminds me a little bit of the work of FIBRE. You can find the EP on CLN's YouTube channel and Spotify.
In terms of news, I woke up a few days ago to see an announcement from FIBRE on his Discord, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that he is going on tour between May and October, with nine dates currently confirmed in various US states. He's playing with a host of amazing guests and fellow DJs and artists, so if you are in any of the states listed or just want to go and see a god of the craft live - now is a super amazing time to do so.
Today, the remix EP for Justice's cracking single "Afterimage" dropped - and the package is absolutely insane. First of all, the cover art is super awesome (and very trippy) - it is probably my favourite variant of their iconic cross!
Aside from the cover art, we're obviously here for the music, and boy did Justice and the other producers featured on this EP deliver. Most of these artists are new names to me, and I have very good impressions of them so far. Every remix has a completely different take on what is already an amazing song, and the uniqueness of these tracks really shines through. The Jersey remix is a club weapon with bright synths, crazy drum work and super groovy percussion - this makes Afterimage perfect for parties, sets and clubs - side note to DJs: PUT THIS REMIX IN YOUR CRATE.
The Lawrence Guy remix is just as dope - mixing sweet instrumentation and lush breakbeats to create a funky, chilled out track perfect for driving and dancing to. This could absolutely fit in racing games, films and in many breakbeat sets. As a jungle / breaks fan, I was super pleased with this remix for these reasons.
The Paranoid London remix takes a completely different direction to the original - using pounding, harsh synths, minimal drum work and also, towards the end, acid basslines. This is raw, heavy and in many ways, extremely sinister - and I enjoy this remix for completely flipping the original to create something pretty nuts. This would makes my bones shake if I heard this in a club. Meanwhile, the Justice remix is pretty sweet too - turning Afterimage into what is essentially a callback to the gabber scene of the late 90s - with an extremely fast BPM, mind shattering instrumentation and some crazy beats and distortion - and it absolutely kicks. Classic Justice.
Overall - this release absolutely hits - so go and check it.
Well, that's all I can think of for now, folks.
Thanks for reading, and see you soon!
P.S - Sorry this was a quick post, been very busy with school lately!
