Drops and news from the fourth week of October!

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque.

The last full week of October has just passed - and just like the rest of this month, some incredible things have happened in all of the various scenes covered here on ATD - there's been some amazing new releases (as always!) - a whole ton of awesome events announced, and the return of a certain legend to the stage...

Let's get started!

The second day of Because Beauborg was insane!
Friday the 25th was an absolutely monumental day for the French touch scene for a huge number of reasons. First of all - the lineup featured a ton of incredible Ed Banger artists - including Breakbot and Irfane, Myd (who did a back-to-back set with Sofia Kourtesis) - Mayou Picchu and Tatyana Jane - however, the main event was at the end of the night - where four legendary DJs stepped up to the decks - Pedro Winter (known to many as Busy P - the manager of Ed Banger Records and a fabled electronic music legend) - Erol Alkan, the legendary DJ and producer known for his incredible work during the blog house era - Grammy nominated producer and DJ Fred again.. - and most importantly, we saw the surprise return of French touch's greatest purveyor - Thomas Bangalter - in which he performed his first DJ set in 16 years - last performing at Cinespace alongside DJ Mehdi and Busy P in April 2009.

Over the two hours the four of them were on stage, tons of fantastic tracks were played - buckets of early ghetto house, Daft Punk classics, blog era bangers (ahem, the Soulwax edit of Phantom Pt. II by Justice + early Carte Blanche and SebastiAn!) and lots of quirky things were included too - I don't think I've ever seen someone spin early Oizo, Underworld and Kraftwerk in the same set!

In general, it was an absolutely incredible night - and a fantastic return to form for the French touch scene's most influential and legendary person. Above (and below) are various photos from the night, captured from everywhere - as the internet went insane. Courtesy of Pitchfork and the Ed Banger Instagram.

The crowd go mad!

Herve - The Answer
Released through his own imprint Cheap Thrills as a Beatport exclusive on October 24th - the brand new disco house single from British producer and DJ Herve is absolutely awesome. It's a funky, drum led house workout which is perfect for dropping into sets and making clubs go crazy. As always, Herve's sampling capabilities go unmatched, and this new single is absolutely no exception - it's tight, fun, ridiculously clean and in general, well worth your time.

You can find it on Beatport now - and it'll be available elsewhere (such as Juno Download) on October 31st.

Kouek - Poolside
Released on October 23rd - the brand new single from future funk producer Kouek is nothing but pure quality. Sampling T.S Monk's 1982 classic I'll Get Over You Somehow - the French producer turns the original - a smooth, slow post-disco / R&B jam - into a thumping, festival ready classic with effortlessly punchy production and a whole lot of low end - making it sound especially awesome on high end speakers - my monitors thoroughly loved playing this for the first time!

To add, this new single reminds me very heavily of the work of legendary future funk producer ID Chief - which is an absolute plus. Pair this with the killer bassline that takes center stage before the main drop, and the funky drum work which persists throughout, and we have an absolute winner on our hands!

You can find it on all good streaming platforms now - however I'm going to link the Bandcamp so you can support him directly!

Wire One - Qualia
We're gonna flip the script a little bit here - after two funky, filter-y jams - I'm going to go to the other side and shine a light on Wire One's incredible new EP. Released on October 24th - across thirty three minutes, the Detroit based producer takes the listener on a pounding, heavy journey through the sounds of blog era electro expertly. This EP is completely nuts (in the best way possible!) - it's extremely unique and it's incredibly energetic (take Long Live Electro for example, that track is insane!) - it's heavily funky at times, with Medicinal Rhinestones opening with some fantastic instrumentation and percussion work - and above all, it's pounding with little room for rest - every single track on this release is ridiculously punchy, built with thick, pounding synthesizer work and excellent sample chopping - making it a massive standout release in the current bloghouse revival that is occurring.

My personal favourites on Qualia include the EP's fantastic opener You Need Us - which is effortlessly bad ass and extremely dark - Medicinal Rhinestones, for its added doses of funk mixed perfectly with trippy choppage and consistently changing and mind bending synth work, and finally No Repetition, a jumpy banger which sounds best when played LOUD.

You can find Qualia on Spotify.

Yung Bae - LIKEILOVEU
Going back to the future funk side - also on October 24th, American producer Yung Bae released his brand new single LIKEILOVEU through Future Funk Records. As described in the heavy media promotion for this track, this new single is considered to be "mecha-inspired future funk" - and it sure does deliver. Although short, this new single is a sweet future funk track which is extremely upbeat and fun - it's extremely energetic (and at times, whimsical) - which means it's perfect for blasting on those warm summer days which are soon to come. It's classic, punchy future funk with faster, hyper-pop influenced vibes. An absolute joy from start to finish!

You can find it on Spotify.

Cassius are in the house for 2026!
Just yesterday night, it was announced that Boombass of Cassius would be playing three very special shows in April 2026 - one on April 10th at the Webster Hall in New York City, one at Olympia in Paris on the 22nd and finally, a show at the legendary London club Koko on the 25th, The tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10AM CET - so be quick, team!

The Instagram announcement!

Catch The Phantom's Revenge LIVE today on Pinata Radio!
That's right, ladies and gentlemen - from 7-8 PM CET, you can catch the world's greatest filter house superhero live under his new alias NS DAYZ as part of his new residency at Pinata Radio. Expect lots of great disco and house jams!

Cheers! - Amour (KNMN Remix)
Released through ADBRK on October 22nd - listeners were treated to the new remix of Cheers' latest single, done by legendary underground producer and DJ - KNMN. This new edit is absolutely incredible - it's effortlessly funky, has some excellent sample techniques and chopping - and above all, it's extremely fun, punchy and perfect for DJs to start dropping in sets. To add, this awesome edit reminds me heavily of the work of UK-based producer Attack Yourself! - which, to say the least, is a massive plus.

In short - this remix is great - go and give it a spin!

You can find it on YouTube now.

Guv'nor Funk - Searching For You
Released through legendary underground collective Creux La Nuit on October 27th - Searching For You is the quirky (yet brilliant) new single from Canadian producer Guv'nor Funk. A thumping filter house single with, surprisingly, some heavy rock influences - Searching For You is a glorious return for the Canadian producer - it's extremely jubilant, fun, perfect for those upcoming summer days, and above all - it's bound to become a future classic from this year alone due to its endless replay ability, and the fact that it truly is a club weapon bound to set crowds alight this winter. Absolutely fantastic.

You can find this excellent new single on Spotify.

Borussia - Bootlegs: Volume 1
Released independently through Bandcamp on October 22nd - this new release from French producer Borussia - known for his work for Ed Banger in the late 2010s - is awesome. Bootlegs: Volume 1 contains two fresh slices of disco house goodness which are produced excellently - they're thumping, full of amazing chops and techniques, and contain all of the good stuff associated with his incredibly unique - yet club ready production style. Although I love both of the tracks on this small release - Pure Girl is the standout - it's extremely quirky - yet blends French touch and golden age future funk perfectly - I also feel like there's some Italo influences in there too - which is a massive plus!

You can find this release on his Bandcamp for NYP.

There you have it, everyone!

I hope you've enjoyed today's post - be sure to go and support all of the artists and DJs featured, and make sure to follow the blog!

It’s just knowing where to pull from. If it’s a Funk song, it’s t...
