The Month in Review: February 2025

It's been an incredibly busy month in the future funk / nu disco and french house scenes - here's all of the cool things that happened in the month of February 2025, all summed up here on a t the discotheque. Just days into February, Justice win the Grammy for best Dance/Electronic Recording on the 3rd - marking Justice's 3rd Grammy win in total and their first since 2018's Woman Worldwide. Like I said in the opening post of this blog - congratulations to you both! Neverender is a fantastic song, and if you haven't checked it out, I highly recommend doing so. This month Australian future funk producer blip_ released two fantastic singles - the brilliant "Mirage" released on Valentines Day with Daniel Fowler and "The Way You Move" released on February 21st with Kirecko, both through Pacific Collective. He's making a lot of waves right now in the scene and is slowly building a good following - side note to those looking for new jams - this guy ...

Interview: Corrout

Hey, readers of the blog! Today I am excited to bring you the first interview on at the discotheque - we get to hear from Australian future funk producer Corrout, who right now is making rounds in the scene for his unique style and his collaborations with Jingoro, TwoForty, blip and more. Anyway, that's enough of me - I'll let Corrout do the talking. 1 - For those that don't know you - who are you and what music do you make? Hello readers! I'm Corrin, also known as Corrout within the music scene, making future funk and adjacent genres. I'm known for my more unique approach in chopping, using chops both as a thing to make loops as well as chops to alternate the melody! I've made jungle and slushwave before as well when i feel in the mood to make it! 2 - What artists in particular inspire you the most in your work? It's hard for my style, I really stumbled into it myself. drruumm, M31-ZERO and blip_ have been giving me incredible amounts of feedback over the...

Review: Peach by Louis La Roche

Released in 2008 at the peak of the blog house movement between 2006-2011, Louis La Roche's debut EP Peach established the then 17 year old as a rising talent in the scene, and one of the UK's newest house music talents upon release. Sure, this EP relies on a classic formula, and there really isn't anything groundbreaking involved in its production - but that doesn't mean it's bad at all. In fact, this release has become one of my favourites in recent months due to the sweet sample selections (I mean, there's Michael Jackson and Dan Hartman stuffed next to each other in the track listing!) the hard hitting drum work which makes it great to drop at gigs and destroy dancefloors, and overall it is a neat and fun release that sums up the Londoner's early work perfectly. My favourite tracks include Get on Down (which, awesomely enough, shares a sample with DJ Falcon's Untitled, released in 1999) Do You Remember and the titular track Peaches. Once again, a...

Review: 1999 by Cassius

Cassius' first album sure isn't the most polished work in the French house scene (seeing as they had three weeks to finish it, according to Phillipe Zdar in 2017) but the ensuing results - a stylish, fun mix of filter house, funky grooves, dusty breaks and tributes to pop stars make this album a hell of a ride, and boy do I love it. The brainchild of former trip hop producers, 1999 sees Cassius (formerly known as Le Funk Mob) go in a completely new direction - linking their past work in hip hop with the sounds of sample based house music which had exploded in popularity the year before, with Daft Punk's debut album still destroying dancefloors along with various other producers aiding in their domination of the dance music world (Stardust, Paul Johnson, Bob Sinclair, DJ Sneak etc,) Most people know the album for the first few tracks - the aptly titled Cassius 1999 (along with its groovy, radio edit counterpart) and Feeling For You - while these tracks are amazing in their...

Valentines Day Drops

It seems that this year's Valentines Day is set to be a great one - particularly because there have been FOUR new releases from some of future funk / french house / nu disco's best artists today alone. Here's my opinion on these new singles! Discoholic and DATAGIRL - Blame It On the DJ Just as I expected, this song is freaking awesome. As the post above states, this new single is an infectious groove which would wreck dancefloors of the late 70s and early 80s. The production is great (the melody is so groovy!) and if that wasn't enough, DATAGIRL's fantastic vocals compliment the song amazingly. A sweet little nu disco groove you can dance to this Valentines. What's not to love? blip_ and Daniel Fowler - Mirage This was a lovely surprise this morning - I was looking around the internet to check if there was anything new to write about and hey - here's a new tune from blip_ and Daniel Fowler! This is produced amazingly well. Sure, it's still future funk (...

Hello, and welcome to the discotheque!

Welcome to at the discotheque  - a blog created by Hackurr (you may know me for making rave / jungle music, or under the name dreamer eighty seven, for sample based house jams) essentially about all of the great new things happening in the French house, disco and future funk scenes, respectively (along with talk about the classics too!) My reason for starting this little blog is simple - since winter 2024, I have grown fascinated with these genres and listen to them pretty much all of the time, so writing and talking about them I knew would come soon enough.  In terms of what's to be expected here, you'll be seeing a variety of things about the genres mentioned above - this includes new releases, some reviews, recommendations, updates about what's going on in various scenes, possibly interviews (let's hope I get some sweet people on board with this!) or just random things if I ever find that one disco tune that needs to be written about . To get this off to a good start...
