Hello, and welcome to the discotheque!

Welcome to at the discotheque - a blog created by Hackurr (you may know me for making rave / jungle music, or under the name dreamer eighty seven, for sample based house jams) essentially about all of the great new things happening in the French house, disco and future funk scenes, respectively (along with talk about the classics too!)

My reason for starting this little blog is simple - since winter 2024, I have grown fascinated with these genres and listen to them pretty much all of the time, so writing and talking about them I knew would come soon enough.

In terms of what's to be expected here, you'll be seeing a variety of things about the genres mentioned above - this includes new releases, some reviews, recommendations, updates about what's going on in various scenes, possibly interviews (let's hope I get some sweet people on board with this!) or just random things if I ever find that one disco tune that needs to be written about.

To get this off to a good start - here's what's happening in the scene right now!

On February 3rd - Justice won the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic recording for their amazing track "Neverender" featuring Tame Impala (which featured on their fourth album Hyperdrama, released last April on Ed Banger) - congrats guys!

Speaking of Ed Banger - it was also announced that through the label, Cassius are dropping a repress of the exclusive "DJ tool" version of 1999 digitally and on vinyl through Bandcamp, giving a fresh take on one of the most important albums in the French house scene.

Finally, recently Washington D.C based producer and DJ Discoholic announced a brand new single featuring LA based singer DATAGIRL, "Blame it on the DJ" which is releasing tomorrow. Be sure to go and check it out.

That's it from me today. I hope you enjoy your stay at the discotheque.

Interview: Louis La Roche

Hello everyone - welcome back at the discotheque. Today's post is extremely special - as we get to hear from UK based nu disco, pop and French house producer Louis La Roche - a veteran in the French house scene of the late 2000s and an extremely accomplished musician in his own right - with his work amassing tens of millions of streams and a heavy amount of incredible remixes under his belt. It is an honor to get him onto the blog! Without further ado, I'll let him do the talking! For those that don’t know you – who are you, and what music do you make? I’m Brett Francis Ewels, I’m a DJ/Producer from the UK. I started my career making French Touch inspired music, which has slowly evolved into Nu Disco and Pop over the years. What musicians, producers and artists inspire you the most in your work overall? It changes everyday. Seriously. Inspiration can come from anywhere. A lot depends on my mood or my headspace. It’s just knowing where to pull from. If it’s a Funk song, it’s t...

Interview: Corrout

Hey, readers of the blog! Today I am excited to bring you the first interview on at the discotheque - we get to hear from Australian future funk producer Corrout, who right now is making rounds in the scene for his unique style and his collaborations with Jingoro, TwoForty, blip and more. Anyway, that's enough of me - I'll let Corrout do the talking. 1 - For those that don't know you - who are you and what music do you make? Hello readers! I'm Corrin, also known as Corrout within the music scene, making future funk and adjacent genres. I'm known for my more unique approach in chopping, using chops both as a thing to make loops as well as chops to alternate the melody! I've made jungle and slushwave before as well when i feel in the mood to make it! 2 - What artists in particular inspire you the most in your work? It's hard for my style, I really stumbled into it myself. drruumm, M31-ZERO and blip_ have been giving me incredible amounts of feedback over the...
