Hey, readers of the blog!
Today I am excited to bring you the first interview on at the discotheque - we get to hear from Australian future funk producer Corrout, who right now is making rounds in the scene for his unique style and his collaborations with Jingoro, TwoForty, blip and more.
Anyway, that's enough of me - I'll let Corrout do the talking.
1 - For those that don't know you - who are you and what music do you make?
Hello readers! I'm Corrin, also known as Corrout within the music scene, making future funk and adjacent genres. I'm known for my more unique approach in chopping, using chops both as a thing to make loops as well as chops to alternate the melody! I've made jungle and slushwave before as well when i feel in the mood to make it!
2 - What artists in particular inspire you the most in your work?
It's hard for my style, I really stumbled into it myself. drruumm, M31-ZERO and blip_ have been giving me incredible amounts of feedback over the course of my production of music, so they've definitely helped.
My 2 favourite artists, Sui Uzi and Saury have definitely helped because I steal samples from them and listen to them so much. :P
That's Matt for the insane chops, Plexi for the anime groove stuff, Jingoro for his "gimmicks" in his songs (listen to like Miss Honey and Up To You and you'll understand what I mean) and Kouek / Happy Cola for their insane production.
3 - What particular songs / artists / albums got you into future funk when you first found the genre?
I love telling the story of how I got into Future Funk.
Picture this. July 2020, 15 year old me scrolling on r/pewdiepiesubmissions during the evening as a little break from the chaos I had that day. I see this post about a "how cool would be as an ending" with this like pixel art style of outro with the song playing being "Last Summer Whisper" by Anri. My eyes opened, as I've never heard anything so beautiful in my life. So I chuck it onto YouTube, listen to this one AMV of the song, and immediately after, Macross' bootleg of "Remember Summer Days" and from there, I was HOOKED.
For the first year of being into Future Funk, I pretty much only liked Macross and Night Tempo, and a few songs from other artists (S U B W A Y S, Yung Bae, Mikazuki, etc.), until I found "City Night Shadows" by Sui Uzi. This was groundbreaking and I genuinely never ever had heard of a song better in my life. For the next 3 months I'd have Night Songs Pt.1 on repeat nonstop. So yeah, that's how i got into Future Funk.
4 - Are there any labels you would like to release on in the future?
Amazing question. At this point I'd say Business Casual, Doki Doki and Coraspect, all labels which I adore to pieces, who constantly drop incredible tidbits of music into their platform, and I'd like to be a part of them someday, even if I might have to make something different for Doki's hahaha.
5 - Slightly random one - favourite food?
As an Australian myself, I cannot help to say that my favourite food is the Chicken Parmigiana. It's Italian-American made, and transformed the Australia Pub scene in the 80's, everywhere has them nowadays. For $25-27 AUD, you'd get a big slab of chicken crumbed breast, with a beautiful mixture of tomatoes, cheese and ham on top of the chicken, with a whole bunch of garden salads and chips on the side. Always a classic and it's hard to get it wrong.
6 - What have you been listening to lately?
Future Funk: I've been CELEBRATING the drop of Sui Uzi's new EP, "FULL MOON EP", as his self proclaimed "Number 1 fan of his music" with his song "Moonlight" being my special favourite. Other bangers on that EP include, "Sunlight, Stormy Nights, and Missing (You)"
blip_'s newest single, "The Way You Move" with Kirecko is a delight, I'd say it's the best drop of 2025 so far (outside of Sui of course). TwoForty's "shine" is a beautiful flip of Meiko's "So Shine", and way better then the Yuugen version haha.
And finally, JINGORO AND DON'T SAY YOU BOTH ARE AMAZING <3 I'M SO LUCKY FOR YOUR NEWEST SONG TOGETHER.
Not Future Funk: There's 2 artists I'm seeing next month which I'm gearing up for, Magdalena Bay, a synthpop duo with their INSANE album last year "Imaginal Disk" my favourite non future funk album of last year, and Ginger Root, who makes "Aggresive Elevator Soul" as he calls it, with my favourite song of his being "Over the Hill."
This isn't Future Funk, but I've been HEAVY into this french producer called Andora, he actually has INSANE production to making similar sounding but banger songs, my favourite being "Fragments" and I'll thank my doom scrolling on Instagram for one thing and one thing only, this new song by house producer "Arlo" called "Don't Give Up on Us" with Emi Grace, it's Disclosure inspo music, though honestly it's like way better then their stuff :P

7 - On the flip side - what music do you not like?
I'm a pretty firm "I like most things" sorta person nowadays (ask me that 2 years ago and I would scream). However, i'm not a fan of Country at all, MOST metal (Nu Metal I can enjoy a little if it's not too intense) and a bunch Rock, your more standard rock stuff i'm not a fan of at all but genres like Shoegaze is incredible, and there's a few bands which my closest friends love (The Police, Radiohead, The Strokes), which I can really enjoy haha.
8 - If you had to take three albums of any genre to a deserted island, what would they be?
Another amazing question, let's see here.
Night Songs Pt.1 - Sui Uzi. I would die without this album, my life would be like 10x sadder if this album didn't exist, I wouldn't be here making jams. 9/10 songs on this album are incredible, making life a bit happier when turned on.
Run After You - Saury. That's right, 2 future funk albums on this list. If I can spend $85 on a cassette of this album whilst at the time being JOBLESS, I think it's an album I cherish. Saury is like a guilty pleasure of mine, people do NOT like his music that much but I love how it's just good edits of good samples already haha. This is his "best" album and at a 15 track run I'd have more to listen to than my 2nd place favourite album "SPUME"
First Light - Makoto Matsushita. Do you know how hard picking a third album is, especially the fact that I'd probably pick Apogee if it wasn't for the fact it would be 3 for 3 in future funk records!
Vibes alone I think this would be incredible for being on a deserted island, the emotion that Matsushita has and the beautiful guitar and piano parts are just incredible for an evening play of this, I might cry after it though.
I think this beats out other albums I considered like "Charm" by Clairo (omg i didn't mention her in Q6. but that album is MMMMMM and she's legit my celebrity crush)
"Overfeel" by Namitape, "Imaginal Disk" by Magdalena Bay, "seeyalater stratocaster" by ippo.tsk and a bunch more I considered.
9 - Can you tell us anything about any upcoming projects / things to look out for from you?
I have a new album titled "Melodic Memories" which is done, that's in the process of being mixed and mastered by a label - it includes songs such as "Do You Love Me?", "Why?", "Are You Ready?", "You Can Do It!" and a few more.
I've got a bunch of collabs coming up, like, too many... I need to get working on them. Some are absolute heat, like one with Don't Say.
10 - Do you want to give any shoutouts to anyone?
First shoutout to Hackurr, amazing guy who asked me to do this! You should check out his future funk stuff at "dreamer eighty seven" on SoundCloud.
omg, shoutout to my fans. how do i have them??? who knows, but I know there's a few of ya'll who be listening to me a whole bunch, and i hope I get to talk to ya'll more at some point, cause you all are wonderful people! (Though saying that, there is already a title of the "Number 1 Corrout fan") which is my wonderful friend Haze (so fight him if you want that title)
I'll give a shoutout to the people in my little collective, the Pacific Collective. all it is at the moment is a GC of cool people I've collaborated with at some point, which includes, TwoForty, iceloki, blip_, drruumm, Leylyne, Jansport George, LOW V TRACKS, M31-ZERO and QB9. Keep up the incredible work everyone!
And best for last, my best friend Smoot, who has listened to every single song I've released and given me last minute feedback, thanks for being friends with me for 9 years, what would I do without you... (probably be better off but whatever :P) I strive for making a better song in his eyes then Astral Affair.
There you have it, everyone!
I hope you enjoyed reading this interview.
You can check out Corrout on YouTube, Spotify, Bandcamp and all of the usual places.
As always, keep enjoying your stay at the discotheque.
