The Month in Review: February 2025

It's been an incredibly busy month in the future funk / nu disco and french house scenes - here's all of the cool things that happened in the month of February 2025, all summed up here on at the discotheque.

Just days into February, Justice win the Grammy for best Dance/Electronic Recording on the 3rd - marking Justice's 3rd Grammy win in total and their first since 2018's Woman Worldwide. Like I said in the opening post of this blog - congratulations to you both! Neverender is a fantastic song, and if you haven't checked it out, I highly recommend doing so.

This month Australian future funk producer blip_ released two fantastic singles - the brilliant "Mirage" released on Valentines Day with Daniel Fowler and "The Way You Move" released on February 21st with Kirecko, both through Pacific Collective. He's making a lot of waves right now in the scene and is slowly building a good following - side note to those looking for new jams - this guy is one you need to look out for. Things are looking gooood.

When I did my Valentines blog post this month detailing most of the new releases that had dropped - about an hour after Discoholic alerted me that Skylar Spence (aka / fka SAINT PEPSI) had released a remix of Sabrina Carpenter's "Espresso" - it is no surprise to no one whatsoever that it is an extremely amazing remix - filled with sweet grooves and his classic production style. If you weren't aware of this, please go and check it - the legendary prom king has returned.

As if it was right on cue - just today a fresh new cut dropped on FIBRE's label Montaime - the third remix of his dance pop classic "in a vision" done by the awesome VAPERROR.

This remix is a groovy, fun take on the original song which feels very reminiscent of 70s disco - there's some sweet instrumentation (particularly with the chords) and the bass line is funky as hell (as hinted by the super cool cover, which features a BASS, not a regular guitar!)

To add, this remix fits nicely along side Mr Hoosteen's "Second Sight" remix, which was released on Valentines Day - which is just as good! (see the Valentines Day Drops post for more info on that!) - for now, here's the cover for that remix (see above!)

On February 12th - we had Brayan Rojitas and SAKURA-LEE grace us with the amazing "The Way You Love Me" - a fantastic french house / future funk song released through a joint venture with Cherry Pink Records and Neon Soda. Side note to DJs - put this absolute banger in your sets, along with "Burn Me Up" - the latest single from SAKURA-LEE (also mentioned in the Valentines post)

Finally - we had three awesome drops for the rest of this month - we had Discoholic and DATAGIRL's amazing "Blame it on the DJ" - also featured on the Valentines post (and thank you for the love on the blog, Discoholic!)

We had TwoForty drop an awesome funky single at the start of the month, called "don't throw it all away"

And finally, we had the amazing Jingoro drop a brand new six track EP last week called Satisfaction - review coming soon on the blog!

SIDE NOTE:

I just want to say the biggest thank you to everyone supporting at the discotheque - it's been a wild journey so far, and I want to thank everyone who has read, commented and followed the blog so far - I cannot believe we're on 300+ reads in the first two weeks!

More coming soon, and keep enjoying your stay at the discotheque.

THAT'S MATT! - RED STATE ROMEO (THAT'S MATT ANTHEM) On August 15th, everyone's favourite disco cowboy That's Matt dropped an absolutely killer future funk single, which feels heavily inspired by Cape Coral and SebastiAn. A heavy, groovy single with some absolutely fantastic production, this track is fun, lawless in nature and super exciting, and it's packed with some great beats and dope vibes. A must buy for those into modern future funk. You can find it on all good streaming platforms now! Opierm - Forgotten What I Was Feeling Released today on his SoundCloud, Uruguayan producer Opierm's brand new single is such a beautiful piece of work. Inspired by the late 2000s work o...

Crydamoure is back (technically)

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque. For today's post, I thought I'd write about something a little bit different. Over the last nine months or so, a small group of independent producers have been making waves in the French house scene for a simple reason - they're bringing back the sound of legendary French label Crydamoure with style. If you've been living under a rock for the past few decades - or are relatively new to the French house scene - Crydamoure was the record label ran by Guy-Man (one half of legendary duo Daft Punk) and Rico Chedeville between 1997 and 2003. In it's years of operation, it quickly became one of the most respected labels of its time - releasing several EPs and singles which became classics - from fantastic artists such as DJ Sneak, Paul Johnson, Play Paul, Sedat and Archigram, alongside Rico and Guy-Man themselves, under the alias "Le Knight Club" All of the records released through Crydamoure are of the highest orde...

Interview: Ghosts of Venice

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque! It's been a hot minute since there was an interview on the blog - and to make up for that, tonight we have somebody extremely special in the virtual hot seat - the incredible Ghosts of Venice. Known for his illustrious career spanning over a decade and a half - he's released on some of house music's biggest labels, produced some of the hottest tracks and remixes around, has over a billion streams under his belt - and he's also a pretty cracking DJ and promoter. With all of this in mind - I knew he had to get onto the blog! So, without further ado - I'll let him do the talking! For those who don’t know – who are you, what music do you make and where are you from?  My name is Lee Dunn, and I’ve gone by many monikers over the years, but most people know me as Ghosts of Venice. These days I mostly make Disco, and I’m from North Yorkshire, England. If you had to describe your sound to someone who’s never listened to your mu...
