Released in 2008 at the peak of the blog house movement between 2006-2011, Louis La Roche's debut EP Peach established the then 17 year old as a rising talent in the scene, and one of the UK's newest house music talents upon release.
Sure, this EP relies on a classic formula, and there really isn't anything groundbreaking involved in its production - but that doesn't mean it's bad at all. In fact, this release has become one of my favourites in recent months due to the sweet sample selections (I mean, there's Michael Jackson and Dan Hartman stuffed next to each other in the track listing!) the hard hitting drum work which makes it great to drop at gigs and destroy dancefloors, and overall it is a neat and fun release that sums up the Londoner's early work perfectly.
My favourite tracks include Get on Down (which, awesomely enough, shares a sample with DJ Falcon's Untitled, released in 1999) Do You Remember and the titular track Peaches. Once again, another side note to DJs - be sure to stick these tracks in your sets, you'll probably get a nice amount of credit with these weapons!
Aside from being a great little release, this EP caused a lot of commotion when it first dropped, as people started spreading rumors that Thomas Bangalter (yes, the god himself) produced Love, track three of the EP, with people saying it sounded like an unreleased project of his. While it is a great track that's definitely reminiscent of his work - it's just a teenager from England in a bedroom, really.
Never judge a book by its cover!
Overall, this is a really fun EP, full of French touch grooves from a golden era of the genre. For those looking for something fun to dance to or to stick in your summer playlist, this is for you. If you haven't listened to it, I highly recommend it!
Rating - 8.5/10
It can be found online in various places, however CrystalForce's upload of the EP is the highest quality you can get, so I'd go there! (downloads are also provided - thanks man!)
As always, keep enjoying your stay at the discotheque.
