New Drops: The end of March!

Hey everyone - welcome back to at the discotheque.

March has already practically disappeared (as I said in the month in review post for February, where the hell does all of the time go?) but these last two weeks have seen some awesome drops in French house and future funk, so they have to be covered!

FIBRE x Aritus - Virtues EP (Deluxe)
For me, this is the release of the month. Initially released in 2016 by FIBRE and Aritus on their label Future Society, today Neoncity Records have reissued classic EP Virtues and added loads of awesome bonuses in the process - including several bonus tracks and three remixes from some of future funk's greatest (ConsciousThoughts, Rhodes Rhodesu and Vantage!)

On the whole, the original EP is irresistibly funky throughout, with some incredible sample selections and incredibly punchy production, typical of both FIBRE and Aritus (and they can do no wrong!) - my favourite tracks from Side A include Always, Zenith and the original version of Odyssey, which absolutely kicks!

Side B kicks off with an incredible remix of "Always" by Vantage, which is probably my favourite cut on the album - it's groovy, fun and it reminds me of his earlier work from 2015, for some reason. Definitely an awesome piece of work. The other remixes (respectively from ConsciousThoughts and Rhodes Rhodesu) are equally amazing with different production styles and awesome techniques, creating super awesome takes on already classic future funk tracks.

Despite being a re-issue, this release also offers some BRAND NEW music from Aritus and FIBRE - the Odyssey VIP, Let Me Go and Forever. All three of these tracks are super inventive, groovy and fantastic, with lots of great instrumentation and they are super upbeat. Side note to DJs - if you're looking for something new to play on the radio, or even at gigs, shove this in your crate (this is fitting seeing as you can now pre order the vinyl version of this release now from Neoncity's website!)

Overall, this is a super awesome release and it was very much worth the wait. Shout outs go to Aritus, FIBRE and everyone who did the awesome remixes - you've made something incredibly special here.

Find the release here, exclusively on Bandcamp (coming to streaming services soon!)

Miss Phantom - Flash Gordon's Revenge
The new single from Miss Phantom (aka Opierm and Sboulouf) is nothing short of awesome. A new French house act which pays homage to The Phantom's Revenge, Miss Phantom have dropped a new club weapon which easily can be mistaken for a track by TPR himself from the late 2000s blog house era.

Dope production, slamming drum work, fantastic sample selection and it's Flash Gordon on the cover. What's not to love?

You can find Miss Phantom (and the new single) on their SoundCloud:

blip_ - Radio Rock
At this point, Russian producer blip_ has become a mainstay on this blog and it is no surprise as to why - his amazing production skills and sonic abilities shine through on every single track he does, and this is no exception. One of my favourite new tracks of the week, this is a groovy future funk banger that's sure to get parties started.

It was released through Pacific Collective this morning, and is an extremely welcome addition to the up and coming producer's discography (the cover art is also absolutely awesome, it's so aesthetically pleasing!)

Also, as a slight mention, this dude is dropping tracks of this quality WEEKLY. Go and find his Spotify / Bandcamp / SoundCloud when you have the time. It's totally worth it.

interlectra - Between Readings
Released on March 21st on Creux La Nuit, UK based French house producer interlectra's second album Between Readings is a spectacular piece of work with twelve filter house jams to spice up your DJ sets, beach parties and summer days.

In the album there's plenty of bangers plus a collaboration with Creux La Nuit founder Opierm (who is also mentioned above!) - my favourite tracks include Pop (a very groovy little track, quite nice to chill to!) - So Many Nights (a very strong opener, sets the album up perfectly) the sentimental and purely brilliant Everything You Need and The Day Club, which to me feels reminiscent of the stuff from Le Knight Club you'd see on Crydamoure between 1999-2001.

Overall, a very groovy piece of work. Crank this release 24/7 if you want to dance.

You can find Between Readings on Bandcamp, SoundCloud and Spotify.

Overall, it's been a pretty dope few weeks. Bring on April!

Thanks for reading everyone, and keep enjoying your stay at the discotheque.

Crydamoure is back (technically)

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque. For today's post, I thought I'd write about something a little bit different. Over the last nine months or so, a small group of independent producers have been making waves in the French house scene for a simple reason - they're bringing back the sound of legendary French label Crydamoure with style. If you've been living under a rock for the past few decades - or are relatively new to the French house scene - Crydamoure was the record label ran by Guy-Man (one half of legendary duo Daft Punk) and Rico Chedeville between 1997 and 2003. In it's years of operation, it quickly became one of the most respected labels of its time - releasing several EPs and singles which became classics - from fantastic artists such as DJ Sneak, Paul Johnson, Play Paul, Sedat and Archigram, alongside Rico and Guy-Man themselves, under the alias "Le Knight Club" All of the records released through Crydamoure are of the highest orde...

Interview: Ghosts of Venice

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque! It's been a hot minute since there was an interview on the blog - and to make up for that, tonight we have somebody extremely special in the virtual hot seat - the incredible Ghosts of Venice. Known for his illustrious career spanning over a decade and a half - he's released on some of house music's biggest labels, produced some of the hottest tracks and remixes around, has over a billion streams under his belt - and he's also a pretty cracking DJ and promoter. With all of this in mind - I knew he had to get onto the blog! So, without further ado - I'll let him do the talking! For those who don’t know – who are you, what music do you make and where are you from?  My name is Lee Dunn, and I’ve gone by many monikers over the years, but most people know me as Ghosts of Venice. These days I mostly make Disco, and I’m from North Yorkshire, England. If you had to describe your sound to someone who’s never listened to your mu...
