All of the great things released in May!

Hey everyone, and welcome back at the discotheque!

May was a crazy month in the French house and future funk scenes - and due to my finals starting - I basically missed out on being able to write about it all! (sorry, you can blame GCSEs for that one!) - however I now have a bit of time on my hands to talk about some of the freshest new releases from lots of awesome people.

If you're a regular reader of the blog - there's some people you'll recognize, but there's also lots of new talents that I'd love to cover in this post - so without further ado - let's look at all of the awesome things that released in May 2025.

Da Funkin' Punks (DJ Chidow and Myujikku) - Bits and Pieces
This is very likely one of the most impressive house music projects I've ever listened to. A two volume series produced by DJ Chidow and Myujikku - Bits and Pieces is the ultimate Daft Punk tribute - filled with fantastic tracks, mashups and remixes inspired by the duo's most iconic work - along with some very fun original tracks (such as Jack Edwards, present on volume two!) and some interesting excursions too. Collaborators include Nightowl, Blu and DJKiske - amongst various others!)

You can find both volumes on the Chidowhouse Bandcamp, and the YouTube channel of DJ Chidow and Myujikku.

PS - the BIGGEST side note to DJs - there's some slammers in here, put these two albums in your crate and support one of the best projects to come out of the French house scene this year - it's totally worth it. Also, much love to DJ Chidow for remixing one of my own tracks for Volume II!

Macross 82-99 - SAILORWAVE COMPLETE
On May 12th, Hong Kong based future funk label Neoncity Records released the entire trilogy of Macross 82-99's Sailorwave albums - made between 2013 and 2022, in a neat little bundle for a dollar! (which is incredible value!)

I have a huge soft spot for the first Sailorwave album, and in my opinion, all three releases are fun, exciting albums which absolutely deserve to be propelled into the spotlight again with this excellent re-release. Collaborators include Kamei, Parrot Jungle 95, Vantage, Chieko and Night Tempo - among many others too. If you want to look at some of the best future funk on the market - these albums are 100% for you. You can, as I mentioned above, buy all three albums digitally through the Neoncity Bandcamp page for a dollar - or you can buy the bundle on cassette - which comes packaged with a very awesome custom cassette player brandishing some awesome Sailorwave visuals. Definitely something to pick up for summer!

Colossus - I Don't Disagree
Released on May 28th on now established netlabel Creux La Nuit - Colossus is a four man project from Opierm, Future0s, Phobos and 4own 2 3arth - and this simple four track EP packs a massive punch - delivering some absolutely killer filter house tracks built for DJ sets and clubs - ever since it released, I've had it on repeat (especially Trackin' and Camry, which are absolutely insane tunes that need to be studied!)  - and to me, it absolutely deserves a wider release (it is currently only available on SoundCloud, from my knowledge...)

In my opinion, this is an excellent piece of work that deserves to be widely heard - it captures the spirit of modern French house perfectly - and

You can find the EP on Colossus' SoundCloud.

DeeJMD - Second Chance
On May 23rd, we saw filter house legend DeeJMD drop a pumping club banger on his SoundCloud called "Second Chance" - which absolutely bumps. Excellent sample selection and groove - but it's DeeJMD - and we all know the man is capable of making some excellent filter house music. Side note to DJs: Go and put this in your sets - it will destroy clubs. A thumbs up from me!

Yesca and HATT.D - Happiness Therapy 25
It's no surprise to anyone now that Happiness Therapy is quickly joining the ranks of the top house music labels - and this release is no exception. After a fantastic trilogy of releases from B of E, the label returns with a split full length release from new talents Yesca and HATT.D - with seven pure house bangers set to obliterate clubs this summer.

The whole release feels very reminiscent of the house music coming out of Chicago in the late 90s - making these tracks fit effortlessly into DJ sets - all of the tunes roll flawlessly with groove - I can imagine DJ Sneak spinning the slower tunes from this EP in a basement back in 1996 / 1997 - and I can imagine the faster cuts being played at clubs everywhere to bring lots of energy to a set.

My favourite tracks on this EP include the opener from Yesca "House It Up" - a smooth, percussion fueled joint with lots of funky vibes included - and "Aye" by HATT.D - a super awesome tune with some awesome instrumentation (the stabs are so, so good!) and as a plus - it reminds me of the stuff you'd hear on UKG label Kiwi Rekords - owned by Conducta. The Belgians sure know how to produce some good house music these days...

You can find HT25 on all good music retailers - and you can buy the vinyl from Happiness Therapy's Bandcamp page - but be quick, as the wax is selling out fast!

Tui - Jueve
A stalwart in the house music scene - Brazilian producer and DJ Tui dropped a new album on May 30th - I'd been looking forward to this release for a while, and let me tell you - the man did not disappoint whatsoever. There's eight tracks of pure Brazilian disco house here for you to enjoy during those sweet, summer days coming up, and man, these tracks are funky!

My personal favourites from this release include the upbeat track "Monamor" - which caught my attention instantly for the super groovy sample it uses - the extremely groovy Homem Pequerno - which reminds me very heavily of Paul Johnson or DJ Sneak - and the very sweet, but short "E Tarde" - a very beautiful little house track that feels incredibly fun and exciting - it reminds me very heavily of future funk from the 2015-2016 era - so bonus points for you, Tui!

You can find the album on all good music retailers - and if this is your first time hearing of the guy - go and check out his other stuff too, as it is totally worth it (especially Magic Flowers, that track is crazy!)

Corrout - Encore
Corrout is back on ATD once again, and for very good reason - on May 9th, he released his brand new future funk single Encore on my label Soda - and boy, it is a beauty. As one would expect from the Australian master of future funk - this track showcases his immense skill perfectly - there's some great production in here (plus, some drum breaks, which is ALWAYS a plus!) - so make sure to go and bump it - it's looking like a very good year for the young producer.

マドロスMERCURY - Black Hearts II
I thought I'd shine a light on a new release which I absolutely adore - Black Hearts II by MERCURY - this future funk EP dropped on May 24th - and it reminds me very heavily of golden age future funk and Aloe Island Posse - think future funk for chilling at the beach with your friends and eating ice cream. It's a super upbeat release filled with funky vibes and great tracks - and I'm super glad this came on my SoundCloud recommended last week.

My favourite tracks from this release are Coastal Drive and In My Heart Forever Part II - both of these tracks are super bright and fun, and they never fail to put a smile on my face. For those looking for music to brighten those tough days - this is definitely one to listen to.

You can buy this EP on Bandcamp - and you can also find it on MERCURY's SoundCloud.

Funkaholic - Funkaholic EP
The debut EP from two of Brazil's finest new house music talents - mayo1109 and Le Sorv (dubbed as Funkaholic) is nothing short of spectacular, and as expected - this EP is a real joy to listen to. There's six tracks, and they're all just as funky and sweet as each other - with several of them being in tribute to legendary filter house label Crydamoure in sound and in name (hence the numerous references to Cryda in half of the EP's tracklisting!)

My personal favourites from this excellent EP are Crydamoure's Anthem (Part II) and Dance Till No More - both of these tracks expertly replicate the filter house sound of the late 90s brilliantly, and I'll absolutely be sure to stick these tracks in my DJ sets going forward - so look out for that!

You can find the EP on Funkaholic's SoundCloud.

Brayan Rojitas - Hurry Up & Come Back
To end out this (very long) post - I thought I'd shine a light on the brand new release by Colombian producer Brayan Rojitas - a simple two tracker that absolutely bumps - both of these tracks heavily remind me of the early 2010s blog house sound (I mean 2011-2013) - and as expected from the rising star - both of these tracks are absolutely awesome, they're groovy, funky and everything you want in modern filter house music. Side note to DJs - get this release - it will absolutely hit in your sets!

You can get the EP on all good music retailers.

Alright everyone! I hope you enjoyed this post (and sorry it's been so long - I wanted to make this one extra awesome!) - I'll see you again back at the discotheque.

What musicians, producers and artists inspire you the most in your work overall? It changes everyday. Seriously. Inspiration can come from anywhere. A lot depends on my mood or my headspace. It’s just knowing where to pull from. If it’s a Funk song, it’s t...

Interview: Corrout

Hey, readers of the blog! Today I am excited to bring you the first interview on at the discotheque - we get to hear from Australian future funk producer Corrout, who right now is making rounds in the scene for his unique style and his collaborations with Jingoro, TwoForty, blip and more. Anyway, that's enough of me - I'll let Corrout do the talking. 1 - For those that don't know you - who are you and what music do you make? Hello readers! I'm Corrin, also known as Corrout within the music scene, making future funk and adjacent genres. I'm known for my more unique approach in chopping, using chops both as a thing to make loops as well as chops to alternate the melody! I've made jungle and slushwave before as well when i feel in the mood to make it! 2 - What artists in particular inspire you the most in your work? It's hard for my style, I really stumbled into it myself. drruumm, M31-ZERO and blip_ have been giving me incredible amounts of feedback over the...
