Mid June drops!

Hello everyone - welcome back at the discotheque.

Summer is now well and truly upon us, and to celebrate - I thought I would do a post all about some the new tunes and releases that have serenaded us in the first two weeks of June. Without further ado - let's talk about some bangers!

KNMN - God Damn!!! (Miss Phantom Remix)
The return of one of modern French house's finest duos - Miss Phantom (the brain child of Opierm and Sboulouf Le Detective) released a true club slammer on June 7th - and to no-one's surprise, it is absolutely awesome. For those that don't know, the Miss Phantom project is directly inspired by blog house legend The Phantom's Revenge - and the duo have managed to perfectly replicate the man's sound while remixing "God Damn" by Tokyo based producer KNMN - who it got the attention of pretty quickly.

This track is pure awesomeness - the sample selection and chopping is fantastic (as always) and the drums are super punchy - it reminds me slightly of the work of Justice for how epic it sounds. Overall, a tune. This may become one of the classics of the modern French house era.

CitrikkAcid - Love's a Game (To You)
The fifth release on emerging collective Nuixante is a real treat - produced by New Jersey's finest CitrikkAcid, Love's a Game is a beautiful French house track with some lush instrumentation, great production and a wonderful sample (shoutout to Cheryl Lynn!) - side note to DJs - this is certainly one to stick in your crate for the end of a set, as this particular track is full of emotion - think of this as house music for sunsets and hugs. (Sounds cheesy, but as a writer I have some super weird thoughts that seem to fit scenarios - can you blame me?)

Itami Dakusu - Liar
Building onto Nuixante - the week before, we were served with the fourth release -  an awesome little tune by prolific future funk / french house producer Itami Dakusu. Borrowing from the sounds of electro and future funk - Liar is a smooth, groovy track with a killer bassline (and an even more killer sample - we love George Duke!) - and this really was a great little outing to start off June. I love this one a lot - there's lots of great little quirky bits in this tune - whether it's the percussion, or the filter-y bits throughout. Definitely one to bump!

Minuit Cafe - Club Nostalgia (Special Edition)
Released on June 6th through American label Business Casual - summer began for the label with a special edition re-release of Minuit Cafe's Club Nostalgia LP. I initially bought the original version of Club Nostalgia when it dropped, as it had some incredibly fun, funky house and future funk tracks - and this re-release does not disappoint. Alongside the extremely well produced original album (which is full of bangers, may I add) - there are also several new remixes, with some real heavy hitters stepping up, such as Tui and Aveneir to provide their takes on some tracks from the album. In short - if there was any doubt to grab the album when it dropped in November - that's surely been alleviated by now. Go and grab it.

PS - You can also get it on CD - there's 50 left, so get em' quick!

Daydream Deluxe and Zai Kowen - Follow Me
Released on June 11th - this super sweet collaboration between future funk legend Zai Kowen and acclaimed music YouTuber Daydream Deluxe is nothing short of awesome. Reminiscent of the Artzie Music days of future funk (so, between 2014-2017, mostly!) - this collaborative track incorporates everything good about future funk and adds a good dosage of fun, summer vibes and some great techniques and instrumentation. I highly recommend this. You can find this on their SoundCloud pages.

Wandue Kids - Red (Luv4Loop Remix)
Released just a few days ago by teenage garage and French house producer Luv4Loop - the UK based producer cooked up a storm with this excellent remix of Red by Wandue Kids.

Complete with his signature style, some great drum production, a killer bass line (and a lot of sidechain - essential in the process!) - this track really isn't one to be missed, and a huge side note to DJs: You need to play this in your sets. Watch the crowd move. You can thank me later in the comments of this post (or any other post, for that matter.)

This wonderful remix can be found on his SoundCloud.

An important (and awesome) announcement from the CLN headquarters...
To round this post off, I thought I would mention (with permission from head honcho Opierm) something in the works from Creux La Nuit - the now well established French house collective that is making waves in the scene.

It's no secret to anyone that CLN's mission is to revive French house, and bring it to its former glory - while finding new fans and artists to share the joy of French house music with. A key part of French house's huge history - was the blog house era, most prominent between 2007-2012 (there will be a post on this in further detail this summer!)

All I have to say is - there's a new CLN compilation in the works which aims to kick start a blog house revival. Look out for it this summer.

Anyway, there you have it folks!

I hope you enjoyed reading this post, and as always, keep enjoying your stay at the discotheque.

PS - now my final exams are finished, there's going to be loads more posts. Get ready everyone, it's going to be a fantastic summer.
