Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque.
For today's post, I thought I'd shine a light on some of the new stuff that dropped this week - it's been extremely busy this week for future funk and French house, and some of the biggest quality releases have dropped, along with some incredibly exciting announcements and news.
Without further ado, let's get into it.
Mr Hoosteen - EDM (2K25 Remaster)
Now remastered and available to stream everywhere, future disco king Mr Hoosteen's debut single E.D.M (released as part of his debut EP, 2014) was re-released on July 18th through his now iconic label, OMEAC Records. The track itself is a pure filter house classic, which in my humble opinion, matches the quality of the releases on Crydamoure. Along with that, the cover art is absolutely killer, highlighting not only his capabilities as a producer, but also his talent as a graphic designer and visual artist.
All I have to say is, go and grab the single, stream it or even light up parties with it - it's bound to make your summer days awesome.
Justice and The Flints - Mannequin Love (Remixes)
Released through Ed Banger / Because Music on July 16th, the remix EP for Justice's incredible Mannequin Love, with vocal contributions from The Flints - is an incredible release which blew me away upon first listen. Along with the original track - a powerful yet glitzy dark disco jam (which featured on the duo's fantastic fourth album Hyperdrama) - this EP boasts a star studded cast of producers on remix duties - including The Dare, Braxe + Falcon and Hudson Mohawke.
The Dare's remix is sprinkled with his usual style - incorporating gnarly synths, fantastic melodic work and extremely punchy, headbanging production - turning the original into an energetic, sonically brilliant blog house / electro flip - this one's for fans of SebastiAn and those that truly believe that blog house is returning (which, it is!)
Alan Braxe and DJ Falcon also do wonders - taking the original track and flipping it into a synthwave-esque mood, while making Mannequin Love sound much more gritty, dark and extremely heavy - with lots of warm low end present, Mannequin Love turns from a fantastic disco jam to an uplifting yet sophisticated pump up track. Much love to them both!
Meanwhile, Hudson Mohawke goes much faster, using jittery synths and melding many ideas together to create a fantastic remix - with the use of orchestral hits, timestretched drum breaks and warm instrumentation, it's slightly entrancing, before throwing you in the deep end with gnarly synth work and high energy rhythms. In short, although the most experimental of the three remixes - an extremely welcome edition and a fantastic effort!
Overall, this remix EP is amazing - I highly recommend it!
Luv4Loop - From Today (The Remixes)
Released through now established netlabel and collective Creux La Nuit, the remix LP for Luv4Loop's self released garage single From Today is nothing short of fantastic. Boasting thirteen remixes some some of filter house / garage's best up and coming producers, this really isn't one to miss, with contributions from DJ Double Dutch, Da Syncopator, Le Sorv, JAZZ, tg, Hollowire, Future0s, Sauve La Musique, Danny Shazam, interlectra, DJ Supernick and Disco Sides!
Yeah. That's a lot of epic people.
This remix album really is an absolute treat to listen to, as every artist turns From Today into a completely different song with their own different styles - for example, ZeroZed uses his past production skills in drum and bass in his remix - interlectra turns the song into a warm, fun filter house jam with lots of groove - Hollowire brings listeners back to the blog house era with the use of gritty synths, extremely punchy production (the sidechain in this remix is NASTY!) and some other great instrumentation - Future0s turns From Today into a Latin workout (yes, you read that right, it's fantastic!) while Danny Shazam takes the single back to it's garage roots, while making the track absolutely bump for parties and summer days.
In short, this release is absolutely amazing. You can find it on Luv4Loop's Bandcamp, where you can pay what you want for it - if you ask me, an absolute steal, and an extra side note to DJs - stick this release in your crate - you're guaranteed to get some good reactions!
blip_ and Daniel Fowler - Don't Wake Me Up
Released through Pacific Collective on July 18th, blip_ and Daniel Fowler's new single is absolutely fantastic. An extremely groovy nu disco / house / future funk jam - this track is an extremely upbeat outing which is bound to become a future summer anthem in times to come, for a variety of different reasons. For a start, the production is extremely fantastic (and VERY high quality) - the instrumentation is beautiful (I am in LOVE with the chords!) - there's lots of groove thanks to the drums (and how much they punch!) and most importantly, how wonderful the vocals are, filling out the track extremely well. In short, this song makes me very, very happy!
You can find it on all of the good music retailers - go and stream it. It's brilliant.
SACHI TOYOTA '95 - DOWN 4 THE RIDE
On July 17th, listeners were treated to the new single from Canadian based producer SACHI TOYOTA 95' - bringing two new amazing future funk / house anthems. Alongside the flagship single DOWN 4 THE RIDE - an incredibly fun, summery future funk track with thumping drums, great sampling and some fantastic production reminiscent of the late 90s Chicago house scene - there's also a chilled out house tracked backed with it - HERE (WE ARE) TOGETHER - also with some great sampling, punchy production built for clubs and another great sample to boot - this really is a single not to be missed, and a huge side note to DJs - these tracks were built for the dancefloor - go and get them.
Okay everyone! I hope you enjoyed reading this post - be sure to check out the new releases mentioned today (they're all amazing!) - and make sure to drop a follow for the blog to keep up with new posts that are coming soon.
Keep enjoying your stay at the discotheque,
