Interview: Broken Embraces

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque.

Today we have something a little different - and an awesome person joining us once again in the hot seat here at ATD. Remember the post I made in the middle of June talking about the blog house revival (and the not so subtle references I kept making to it across the month?) - well. things have very neatly lined up. Today, Opierm is joining us again, this time as Broken Embraces - his new alias creating some of the most brutally brilliant blog house music which is set to destroy the universe the same way the Ed Banger crew did in the late 2000s.

Let's get straight to the interview!

For those that don’t know you – who are you, and what music do you make?

Hi, I'm broken embraces - I make bloghouse / electroclash / whatever you motherf***ers call it with the intention of bringing back the MySpace era's sound or just a mixture of my sound with it.

What artists inspired you to make blog house music – and what are you listening to currently?

Some artists that inspired my sound could be SebastiAn, Feadz, Mr Oizo, Artemis Morte, Cathedralis, Loze and maybe Justice too, I've been listening to a lot of the Ed Rec compilations lately, especially Ed Rec Volume 3, since i have it on CD.

What would you say was the best year of the blog house movement, and what releases stand out to you?

2009 in my opinion or 2008 - 09 could be since Italian duo 'The Bloody Beetroots' released their album 'Romborama' which is one of my favourite albums of the genre, I'm thinking more of 08 cause of SebastiAn's remix compilation 'A Fine Selection Of Remixes' and Ed Banger's 'Ed Rec Vol 3' released too, but I'm not that sure to be honest.

Okay, here’s a tough one – Justice in their early years, or SebastiAn in his early years?

SebastiAn in his early years, I just LOVE his sound from that time.

Tell us some small secrets of the production process of your latest remixes as “broken embraces”

Shit ton of distortion ;)

If you could get one artist from any genre to work with you to make something awesome in the gritty, synth based style you’re doing – who would that be?

SebastiAn, Xavier de Rosnay or Cathedralis - I really love his (Cathedralis') style.

If you could start your own label, who would you sign?

Any Bloghouse artist that I like - can't even think of some to name!

Bit of a random one – favourite drink?

Monster or Rockstar.

Do you want to give any tips to aspiring blog house producers?

Make a SpaceHey account.

Do you want to give any shoutouts to anyone?

Shoutouts to Lee, Asier (Hollowire), Beritz and myself!

There you have it everyone. You can find Broken Embraces on his SoundCloud - where he's posting some nasty blog house edits and remixes!

As always, keep enjoying your stay at the discotheque.

Hello everyone - welcome back at the discotheque. Today's post is extremely special - as we get to hear from UK based nu disco, pop and French house producer Louis La Roche - a veteran in the French house scene of the late 2000s and an extremely accomplished musician in his own right - with his work amassing tens of millions of streams and a heavy amount of incredible remixes under his belt. It is an honor to get him onto the blog! Without further ado, I'll let him do the talking! For those that don’t know you – who are you, and what music do you make? I’m Brett Francis Ewels, I’m a DJ/Producer from the UK. I started my career making French Touch inspired music, which has slowly evolved into Nu Disco and Pop over the years. What musicians, producers and artists inspire you the most in your work overall? It changes everyday. Seriously. Inspiration can come from anywhere. A lot depends on my mood or my headspace. It’s just knowing where to pull from. If it’s a Funk song, it’s t...
