Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque.
Today, we have the fourth interview of the week (yeah, the fourth!) - and we have another awesome person in the hot seat here at ATD - UK based garage and French house producer Luv4Loop. He's been making waves in the modern French house scene and also the UKG scene - gaining recognition from everybody at CLN (eventually becoming a member!) and even some fabled legends such as Jammin Gerald, DJ Slugo and Todd Edwards (yes, the actual GOD HIMSELF.)
Without further ado, I'll pass it over to him.
For those who don’t know you – who are you, and what music do you make?
My name is Lee, but I am known as a musician under the name of Luv4Loop! I make a few different kinds of music, my priorities are UK Garage and French House.
Who are some of your biggest inspirations musically – and how long have you been listening to them?
My number one biggest inspiration EVER, is none other than Todd Edwards. I have been listening to him since around early 2023. Another is Daft Punk, I have been listening to them for as long as i can remember.
Can you tell us the backstory behind your stage name? Why Luv4Loop?
To be fair, my stage name isn’t some perfectly crafted choice with tons of backstory, I just heard it in a video talking about Thomas Bangalter, and it really stuck. I put the 4 in it and spelled the “love” as luv, just to differentiate myself.
If you had the opportunity to collaborate with four artists of your choice – who would you pick, and why?
Four random artists… Todd Edwards - why? He seems like an incredible person to be around, let alone make music with.
Toro y Moi - I really love his style, and his vocals I feel would maybe suit one of my instrumentals, and some of his stylistic choices would be interesting to experience in a collaboration with him.
Tame Impala - He has been one of my biggest inspirations for playing guitar, and seeing his departure from rock to more of a house-esque style, I would definitely enjoy hearing what me and him would come up with.
SebastiAn - Again his style is amazing, and I am so intrigued to hear what the product of the both of our styles will be.
Random question – What’s your dream pizza?
Dream pizza? Ham and cheese, I love it man!
Another random one – what cities would you love to play in, and why?
I would love to play in my hometown, Liverpool. We have some good clubs. Another one I would like to play in is maybe New York or Paris. I don’t really know why, I just love those places.
What equipment / programs do you use to make music?
I use Ableton Live 11 Suite with a MIDI keyboard and every so often I borrow a KORG Minilogue xD.
If you went into a record store with a crap ton of money – what releases would you end up walking out with?
Daft Punk - Human After All
Toro y Moi - Causers Of This
Toro y Moi - Anything In Return
Todd Edwards - Full On Vol. 1, 2 and 3
too many Todd Edwards releases to name...
Disclosure - Settle
SebastiAn - Total
SebastiAn - A Fine Selection of Remixes
What tips would you give to aspiring garage / French house producers?
One tip I would give to aspiring producers is to keep learning. Keep listening to your favourite music, look up techniques of your favourite producers. Don’t stop!!!
Would you like to give any shoutouts to anyone?
Patrick, ZeroZed, Leo and Lewis, all the deladapt folks, all the creux la nuit guys, my family and friends, and last but certainly not least, the amazing Hackurr for interviewing me!!
There you have it, everyone!
You can find Luv4Loop on all the usual places - SoundCloud, Bandcamp, YouTube, Spotify - and you can also go to ElasticStage to buy his first album on vinyl and CD - released through Creux La Nuit - and you can also grab his self titled EP on vinyl, released through vieux temps.
As always, keep enjoying your stay at the discotheque.
