Crydamoure is back (technically)

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque.

For today's post, I thought I'd write about something a little bit different. Over the last nine months or so, a small group of independent producers have been making waves in the French house scene for a simple reason - they're bringing back the sound of legendary French label Crydamoure with style.

If you've been living under a rock for the past few decades - or are relatively new to the French house scene - Crydamoure was the record label ran by Guy-Man (one half of legendary duo Daft Punk) and Rico Chedeville between 1997 and 2003. In it's years of operation, it quickly became one of the most respected labels of its time - releasing several EPs and singles which became classics - from fantastic artists such as DJ Sneak, Paul Johnson, Play Paul, Sedat and Archigram, alongside Rico and Guy-Man themselves, under the alias "Le Knight Club"

All of the records released through Crydamoure are of the highest order - they're funky, exciting, fun and at times. humorous - with the label's style ranging from club weapons with expert sample trickery and thumping beats to chilled out grooves perfect for summer days. Although it's always been a popular label in the French house scene - a proper revival didn't occur until around December 2024 - when Texas based producer Da Syncopator started producing fan made EPs to serve as tributes to the label - and they quickly blew up, attracting praise from eager fans for their attention to detail and superb quality.

The first Crydamoure EP he created featured five incredible tracks, all of which racked up thousands of views - initially under the catalogue number CRYDA 020 (Once again, in tribute to the original label!) - it is now the first release on his independent label Synchroma - with the second of his Crydamoure tribute EPs set to release soon. Furthermore, a track from his penultimate tribute EP (CRYDA 023) ended up on Creux La Nuit's third compilation - the incredible "Synco The Avenger|" - an incredible filter house workout which is presumably a tribute to Sedat's release on Crydamoure back in 2000.

Soon, various other producers began to pick up on Da Syncopator's work - sparking a small, yet hopeful revival of the label's sounds - with members of Creux La Nuit such as DJ Dion (also known as DJ Double Dutch) - a producer in the Netherlands who recently re-released his Crydamoure EPs into a twelve track album - Regardless Of The Cover (which is fantastic, may I add!) - Future0s (who has collaborated with Da Syncopator numerous time to create some true bangers!) and of ocurse, Guv'nor Funk.

Aside from that, several new producers stepped up to help aid the revival of the Crydamoure sound - those include the mysterious Quinn Quinton - who stepped up with a cracking debut EP in June (known as CRYDA 029) fronted by the killer track "Nobody" - an incredibly groovy yet chilled outing which reminds me of the later work of Le Knight Club mixed with Sedat - before releasing CRYDA 031 in July this year, with another dope three tracks to boot.

We also have GeoFunk and Hydroxide - two fresh producers making some super sweet tracks that are bound to make rounds for the rest of the year - At the end of July, Hydroxide released the absolutely killer Advil EP - containing four bouncy, funky tracks that would fit perfectly into DJ sets and darker club settings. This release was initially billed as CRYDA 033, however now exists as a free download on Hydroxide's Bandcamp page - so go and support the dude, it's totally worth it!

And finally, we have the work of GeoFunk - who over the last two months, has put out four Crydamoure tribute releases each with different vibes, styles and ideas - and they're all absolutely awesome, with my favourite being CRYDA 034, containing three incredibly funky, dope tracks (It's Funky, Surfin' and All Our Lives) - so be sure to go and check that one out - it's brilliant.

I personally think that these producers all deserve lots of love and attention - as they are single handedly creating some dope tracks, while paying tribute to a legendary label which in the end, although short lived, will forever go down as one of the greatest in the French touch scene - you can find all of their individual channels and links below!

There you have it everyone!
