Mid August drops!

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque.

Today, I thought I'd do a post talking about some of the great new releases over the last week in French house, future funk and disco - there's been some super interesting and fun new cuts - so without further ado, let's get started!

THAT'S MATT! - RED STATE ROMEO (THAT'S MATT ANTHEM)
On August 15th, everyone's favourite disco cowboy That's Matt dropped an absolutely killer future funk single, which feels heavily inspired by Cape Coral and SebastiAn. A heavy, groovy single with some absolutely fantastic production, this track is fun, lawless in nature and super exciting, and it's packed with some great beats and dope vibes. A must buy for those into modern future funk. You can find it on all good streaming platforms now!

Opierm - Forgotten What I Was Feeling
Released today on his SoundCloud, Uruguayan producer Opierm's brand new single is such a beautiful piece of work. Inspired by the late 2000s work of American producer Evil Stereo, this track is extremely groovy yet melancholic - balancing perfectly feelings of joy and sentimentality with his classic production techniques, and some cleverly placed samples from Welsh filter house duo Vanguard's 2010 interview on BBC Radio 1. In short, this is such a wonderful track, and it serves as an excellent tribute to the blog house era of the scene. You can find it on his SoundCloud.

Dequame - Dance Division
Released yesterday on his SoundCloud, up and coming French house producer Dequame (known for being the founder on Enflamz and a member of Opierm's now legendary collective Creux La Nuit) returned with an extremely funky, upbeat deep house track which is clearly influenced by the smooth sounds of nu disco. This track is extremely well produced - it's a true club weapon with some dope instrumentation, thumping beats and an endless amount of vibes - side note to DJs: This is one to stick in your crate. Watch the crowd move, you can thank me later!

Passynth - Mina's Joy and My Praise
Released on August 18th, Texas based producer Passynth, known for his incredible debut album on legendary label Business Casual, came with the heat yesterday in the form of a brand new single. Although slower than his usual stuff, this song is absolutely beautiful - it's full of warm, upbeat and delightful instrumentation - reminding me of nu disco, while calling back on his previous future funk work - and let me tell you, this is not one to be missed. It's fun, bright, exciting and it's a guaranteed pick me up for those rainy days coming forth as summer begins to draw to a close. You can find it on all good streaming platforms now.

Chrylo - Andromeda
Also released yesterday, UK based producer Chrylo released an amazing new single titled Andromeda. A funky, filtery French house / future funk jam set to destroy clubs and parties in the coming months, this tune oozes quality, and reminds me very heavily of the late 90s / early 2000s sound of French house, particularly the work of German trio Supa Channel. In short, when you get a great sample, add some dope drum work and include some great cover art done by TrueKae - you get this cracking single, Go and give it a spin - you can find it on SoundCloud and Bandcamp now.

FRASER - Find My Way
Released through Klondike Underground on August 13th, Canadian producer FRASER's new single is an infectious disco house joint which is extremely funky, summery and incredibly groovy all the way through. It's got some great sampling techniques, some even groovier drums (that percussion is so, so dope!) and some serious low end. This, is a serious track that's going to do damage at clubs. Side note to DJs: This is a must. If your crowd doesn't love this, they aren't human. You can find it on all good streaming platforms now - and you can also buy an extended mix on his Bandcamp - which is just as good!

JOEK x 鄭思恩 SHIYIN - 不醉不歸 LOVE DRUNK (C3REAL NG REMIX)
Released on August 18th, Malaysian producer C3REAL NG released an absolutely crazy remix of Joek x Shiyin's Love Drunk. It's future funk taken to a whole new level - with gnarly synths, fast paced, epic production (which is almost cinematic at points) and some slamming drum work - this new remix is not one to be missed - it's fun, crazy, and while being future funk, heavily points in the direction of Ed Banger in the late 2000s, showcasing blog house's epic revival which is currently taking place. A must listen, if you want something new to bump. You can find it on his SoundCloud and Bandcamp.

There you have it, everyone!

I’m Brett Francis Ewels, I’m a DJ/Producer from the UK. I started my career making French Touch inspired music, which has slowly evolved into Nu Disco and Pop over the years. What musicians, producers and artists inspire you the most in your work overall? It changes everyday. Seriously. Inspiration can come from anywhere. A lot depends on my mood or my headspace. It’s just knowing where to pull from. If it’s a Funk song, it’s t...
