New drops from the first week of August!

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque.

August has arrived, and already in the first week there's been some amazing new releases from a multitude of talented artists - I'm super excited for this month in future funk and French house, because with how things are looking, the rest of the summer is going to be absolutely fantastic. Without further ado, let's get started!

Melonade and Mere Notilde - Pink and Blue EP

Released on Business Casual on the 1st, this joint EP from two of future funk's finest - Melonade and Mere Notilde, is an absolute treat to listen to. Over six tracks, the two producers meld warm synths, chilled out beats and just the right amount of sentimentality and joy to create an EP perfect for blasting in summer. This release is produced excellently, and a favourite of mine this year - furthermore, this release has lots of different influences and moods - Melonade's three tracks (two of which are done with Kujo!) are slices of funky, nu-disco perfection, while Mere's side explores dreamy house and ambient music - Melonade's opener 'So Much' featuring Kill Me Baby and Doktor Plekter opens Pink and Blue in a fun, summery way - while 'Webers' produced by Mere, leaves Pink and Blue on a high note of reflection.

In short, this is a ride and a half - it's joyful, interesting, funky and at times very nostalgic and emotional. Give it a listen, it's brilliant.

You can get this EP digitally through Bandcamp, and you can also grab it on limited edition CD - but be quick, there's only about ten copies left!

This is also Melonade's final release for the foreseeable future - all I have to say, is thank you Melonade for making great music over the years - it's been an absolute pleasure having you in the scene - you're awesome.

La Voyage - Oxnord

Released on August 2nd, the latest single from established French house trio La Voyage - formed by Opierm, Luv4Loop and Guv'nor Funk as a tribute to legendary Welsh duo Vanguard, is nothing short of fantastic. It's produced wonderfully - with thumping beats, some great sampling techniques and fantastic synth work, Oxnord is not one to miss - it's funky, fun and awesome. What's not to love?

Kouek - Holiday

They say nothing beats a Jet2 holiday - but I'm fairly sure this new banger from French producer Kouek comes very close!

Released on August 1st - 'Holiday' is an extremely fun, summery, exciting and awesome future funk track which expertly flips Anyway You Want by Norman Conners. This new single reminds me heavily of the stuff that was featured on Artzie Music back in 2015-2016, which is always an absolute pro - there's nothing like it. Despite the song's fantastic production, it's also an extremely clever take on the viral meme advert which is parading the internet right now, adding a dash of humor to an excellent new single from future funk's next big thing. Go and check it out.

And now, a small announcement break...

I have a Bandcamp page now!

Now, you can officially stream and download the first five of my French house / future funk singles / my Robot Rock remix on Bandcamp - initially exclusively available through my SoundCloud. Everything is currently free to download / pay what you want, and to add - the single for Blades, initially released on CLN, now has an added remix by Da Funkin' Punks, aka DJ Chidow and Myujikku - go and check it out!

Lady Stark is dropping a brand new single tomorrow!

On July 31st, Nuixante founder and producer Lady Stark announced his brand new single Be Mine - which is releasing TOMORROW on all streaming platforms. If it is anything to go by, the trailer on his Instagram looks (and most importantly, sounds) absolutely awesome, and I can't wait to give it a full listen. The Instagram trailer is below.

Back to the new releases...

Moonchild - Girl (ROBUSTTT Dub)

Released on August 4th through SoundCloud, this awesome edit of 'Girl' by Moonchild (a classic French house track from the bloghouse era, released in 2010) produced by Sydney based garage producer ROBUSTTT is one of my favourites this week - it's just as funky and danceable as the original track - albeit sprinkled with some extra speed garage vibes for good measure, giving the original a much needed touch up for clubs and parties in 2025 and beyond. A true 'disco garage' vibe - go and give it a listen!

Itami Dakusu - Ride

Released independently on August 1st, the new single from Peru based future funk producer Itami Dakusu is a real treat to listen to - it's got some thumping production, great sample techniques and a rather mysterious cover art. I personally love this single as it reminds me slightly of the stuff you'd see on Ed Banger in the late 2000s, while being mixed with the vibes of classic Artzie / Real Love Music back in the mid-2010s - it's extremely punchy, vibrant and exciting - which is everything you need for a great track. Go and find it on Bandcamp.

Loop Kitchen - Beats A La Carte: Mixtape I

Released independently through SoundCloud on August 5th, Beats A La Carte is the debut album from mayo1109 - now known as Loop Kitchen. Across eight tracks, the Brazilian producer covers several genres, including electronica, boom bap hip hop, but most importantly - French house. There's four crunchy, lo-fi filter house workouts present on this album, all of which heavily remind me of the stuff released on Roule and Crydamoure in the late 90s - but also the early 2000s style of filter house that was popularized by producers such as Supa Channel and Kiko. There's some true club weapons in here - such as the banger "Happens in America" and the album's closer "Shake It!" which feels like a long lost song from legendary duo Le Knight Club. The other offerings are great too - there's some relaxing hip hop beats with dusty breaks and chilled out samples, and even some C418 inspired tracks littered through, providing this mixtape with some very interesting and unique ideas. Go and give it a listen - it's great.

There you have it, everyone. I hope you enjoyed reading today's post - and keep enjoying your stay at the discotheque.
