Drops from the final days of October!

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque!

October has been such an incredible month for all of the scenes covered on this blog - and as the month came to an end, so many amazing releases came out - and I can't wait to cover them in today's post.

Let's get started!

Cassius - Dance On
Released through Because Music on October 30th - Dance On is the brand new single from legendary French duo Cassius - their first outing in six years, and sadly, their final. Dance On was one of the last tracks that Boombass and Philipe worked on before Zdar's passing in the summer of 2019 - and it is a joyous, incredible end to one of the greatest discographies in French touch history. Stuffed to the brim with dazzling instrumentation, fantastic production - and sleek, slightly distorted vocals from Zdar himself - this truly is a funky nu disco workout to grace the ears. To add, legendary French musician and singer-songwriter -M- features as the lead guitarist - providing effortlessly fun, glamorous licks throughout the second half of the song.

To sum it up - this single is absolutely incredible - and one of the finest things to come out in 2025.

You can find it on all good streaming services, but I'm going to link the Bandcamp in case you want to buy it!

BarbWalters and Itami Dakusu - Departed
Released independently through SoundCloud on October 29th - Departed is the brilliant new single from BarbWalters and now retired future funk producer Itami Dakusu. Departed is an extremely energetic, fun and at times crazy single with some excellent, punchy production and fantastic sampling techniques. It reminds me very heavily of 3 Minutes Ninja Pizza Making by filter house legend The Phantom's Revenge - because both tracks are quick, crazy, stuffed to the brim with excitement and fantastic ideas.

In short, this single is awesome. Go and give it a spin!

Poetically - Queer Oddities
Released through legendary label Montaime on October 29th - Queer Oddities is a collection of B-sides, outtakes and alternate remixes from their 2023 album Odd Queer. This ten track release is absolutely brilliant - it is filled with so many bangers, and it has fantastic instrumentation throughout - no matter the mood. Queer Oddities covers lots of ground - there's glamorous disco cuts, filled with glittery synths and stunning, 80s inspired production, such as the opener I Wear Make Up For Free featuring PHAUN and the previously released Bye Bye Love - which was previously covered on the blog back in August - but there's also buckets of blog-era influence in this record - such as the Funked Up Disco Mix of Girls in High Heels - which feels like a lost Uffie track from late 2006 with its choppy, jittery production - the glitzy, yet effortlessly heavy Sun of a Beach - which feels like something that SebastiAn or SHPESHFTR could have produced - and the bad ass future classic So Odd - which at times, feels frenetic - whereas other times, it's fun, exciting and very funky.

To sum it up in the best way I possibly can - this is a record filled with crazy moments, loads of twists and turns, and it is absolutely amazing. Go and support it!

There's a Bandcamp release next week - however you can stream it everywhere else now - I'll link the SoundCloud here!

MGMT - Little Dark Age (Cheers!' Grief In Stereo Mix)
For Halloween, UK-based producer and DJ Cheers came in hot with a killer new edit of MGMT's Little Dark Age - turning the original from a slow, melancholic, synth-pop classic into a punchy, filter house workout set to wreck clubs in the near future. This edit is extremely heavy - yet it has just the right dosage of fun and summer flavor to fit perfectly into DJ sets - and it's definitely one of my favourite remixes I've heard this month. True filter fun at its absolute finest!

You can find this edit on Cheers' SoundCloud.

Opierm - Thru My Heart
It's been a hot minute since we've seen anything from Opierm as a solo artist on the blog - so I thought it would be great to shine a light on his brand new single Thru My Heart - which is a short, but sugary sweet disco house single that feels summery, energetic and has his signature style all over. Thru My Heart feels like it could have fit perfectly on his last EP - it's punchy, has some great sample finesse and, just like the Cheers edit above - is one for DJs to spin to destroy dancefloors this coming autumn. What's not to love?

You can find it on his SoundCloud - with a very humorous cover!

There you have it, everyone!

This one was just a quick post to celebrate some of the final releases of October - if it's anything to go by - I have a good feeling that November is going to be crazy - so keep your eyes peeled!

As always - be sure to support all of the artists featured on today's post - thank you for reading, and keep enjoying your stay at the discotheque!

It’s just knowing where to pull from. If it’s a Funk song, it’s t...
