Lady Stark - Sugar Girl Released everywhere last Friday - Sugar Girl is the incredible new single from Argentina based producer Lady Stark, which oozes with a ridiculous amount of quality. It's an insanely bright, deeply melodic crossover between the sweet sounds of future funk and filter house which is incredibly tight, impactful and so, so much fun - sampling Calloway damn near perfectly. Released through his legendary underground label OMEAC in April 2018 - New York based producer, visual artist and DJ Mr. Hoosteen's debut album Anachronism is a cracking listen, which is riveting, exciting, daring and above all - very, very fun. Just like his sophomore record No Time 2 Lose - Anachronism is a seamless, epic journey from start to finish - however, instead of the smooth, nu disco influenced grooves present - this record shows a darker, slightly less polished side to his work - making it all the more interesting and quirky. If No Time 2 Lose was Mr. Hoosteen's equivalent to Discovery - then Anachronism is his Homework. We're now just about halfway through the blog's first anniversary week - and for today's post, I thought I'd shine a light on how I got into French house, future funk and disco - and talk about the artists, releases and labels that helped me discover all of this incredible music and the amazing scenes revolving around it. Released through his label Ever After in December 2009 - Norwich-based producer, singer-songwriter and DJ Louis La Roche's third EP truly is such an incredible release - and although it's short - it packs a massive punch in around ten minutes with three supercharged filter house classics with just the right amount of groove, loose funk and slamming production. I've been listening to it heavily for the last six months, and just like his other major releases from his formative years as a French house producer, this EP oozes with magnificent quality. Super Soaker's opener Malfunction proves that excellently - it's a deep, heavy and slightly hypnotic club workout stuffed with fantastic vocal chops and light, airy synths which feels like an extremely welcome crossover between the work featured on Daft Punk's first two albums - while also calling on the work of various late 90s house legends such as Paul Johnson and Roy Davis with the thumping beats and superb product...
