Drops and news from the last two weeks of February!

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque!

We're now about to enter March - and since my time away from the blog - there's been loads of amazing new releases from tons of amazing people. We have some epic returns, dope new cuts, some incredible announcements / news and to sum it up - these last two weeks have been some of the best since ATD began - so be sure to buckle your seat belts - this is gonna be a dope one!

Let's get started!

Lady Stark - Sugar Girl
Released everywhere last Friday - Sugar Girl is the incredible new single from Argentina based producer Lady Stark, which oozes with a ridiculous amount of quality. It's an insanely bright, deeply melodic crossover between the sweet sounds of future funk and filter house which is incredibly tight, impactful and so, so much fun - sampling Calloway damn near perfectly. To me, Sugar Girl feels like a very healthy blend between the filtery sounds of various Parisian house acts, and the styles of ID Chief and Cape Coral - making it an excellent track to bump this spring.

Go and give it a listen!

You can find Sugar Girl on all good streaming services - but I'm going to link the Bandcamp below so you can support Lady Stark directly!

Synapson (feat. Nic Hansen) - Intemporel X Colours (The Director Remix)
Yesterday was an absolutely amazing day for many reasons - with one of those being that we finally got to listen to some amazing new music from everyone's favourite film nerd and modern French house legend The Director.

Although not in his usual style, this remix is absolutely cracking - it's a fantastic, snappy nu disco jam with loads of glittery instrumentation, it's extremely funky and rich, it has a ton of bright synthesizer work and best of all - it feels like a long lost jam from Alan Braxe and Fred Falke in their mid-2000s Vulture heyday - so it gets a massive thumbs up from me!

You can find it everywhere now - however, I'm going to link the YouTube video below!

Flippinsames - The Alter EP
Here's something a little bit different - released independently yesterday through Bandcamp, the brand new two-track EP from Japanese producer Flippinsames is absolutely incredible. This release is produced expertly - matching the legendary work of Todd Edwards in his mid-2000s prime, with some incredible micro-sampling techniques present throughout, thumping beats that make these cuts perfect for dropping in clubs - and both tracks present are stuffed with great hooks and have a whole lot of undeniable style. Although I Want To Be is incredible and quirky at points - the A-side Let Me Cry is the real showstopper here - a seven minute garage workout which feels effortlessly summery, bright, playful and hopeful - making it one of my favourite tracks of the year so far.

Go and grab it now!

Okay - now it's time for a few bits of news!

Mr. Hoosteen's legendary album No Time 2 Lose is releasing on CD soon!
Yes, you read that right - after several cryptic teasers were dropped across late February - it was announced that next Friday (March 6th!) that Mr. Hoosteen's second full length was getting an exclusive CD release through OMEAC / Montaime. This release is planned to have brand new art and bonus tracks - so be sure to get your copy - I know I will be.

Fred Again and Thomas Bangalter played live together last night!
Last night was a truly monumental night in the history of electronic music for two reasons. Number one - Fred Again finished his epic USB002 tour - and secondly, it was done with none other than Thomas Bangalter, one half of legendary duo Daft Punk, who initially returned to DJing at Because Beauborg last year. As you can expect, the media went completely nuts, and although not much is currently known, several classics from Daft Punk's second album Discovery were played, so that's a great indication of what was likely a killer set!

Proux - Too Late
Going back on to the music side of things - last week, we were treated to an amazing new single from Mexico based producer and DJ Proux - who many may know for his excursions in future funk, his affiliations with Montaime and his fantastic new work which spans funk, disco and filter house. His new single Too Late - is a club-ready banger which is influenced by the sounds of early 2010s filter house - it is extremely lively, warm, energetic and inviting - and I can almost guarantee that it's going to spice up your summer this year (and the many to come!) with the top tier production and bright tonality it carries with pride - go and grab it!

You can find it through Bandcamp now.

Claptone and Hanna Boleyn - Black and Gold (A-Trak Remix)
So, for the last eight months - blog-era house music has been a hugely important part of the blog - so I knew I had to write about this when it dropped last week. A glorious return to form for Fool's Gold head honcho, legendary producer and superstar DJ A-Trak - last week, he dropped a stunning electro house remix of Claptone and Hanna Boleyn's amazing new single Black and Gold. Truly, this is a delightful slice of house that is set to destroy the universe in due time - it's extremely aggressive, surprisingly clean and it's oddly uplifting, motivating and heavy. Stuffed with slamming drums and thick synthesis that compliment the amazing voice of Hanna, while giving a distinct edge to the original - if you haven't listened to this yet - you seriously, seriously should. Is blog-house back? I damn well think so!

You can find it on most streaming services - but I'm going to link the YouTube upload below!

Nadia Oh - Got Your Number (Broken Embraces Edit)
Building onto the topic of electro-house that sounds like it's from late 2008 - I bring you this - released independently through SoundCloud on the 18th, we finally saw the return of Broken Embraces, who came in hot with a killer, blog-era sounding edit of Nadia Oh's Got Your Number. While the original is a glitzy, radio friendly pop outing - Broken Embraces turns it into a complete monster - providing a whole lot of harsh grit and extremely compressed, tight production set against a backdrop of sharp, quick yet upbeat synth work and heavy distortion. I tell you - all of the Ed Banger crew would be proud to hear this - and to any Uruguayans reading the blog - be proud that this guy represents you!

Look out for more from him soon. In the meantime - go and crank this as loud as you can.

There you have it, everyone!

I hope you've enjoyed reading today's post - as always, be sure to go and support all of the artists featured - and keep enjoying your stay at the discotheque.

Crydamoure is back (technically)

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque. For today's post, I thought I'd write about something a little bit different. Over the last nine months or so, a small group of independent producers have been making waves in the French house scene for a simple reason - they're bringing back the sound of legendary French label Crydamoure with style. If you've been living under a rock for the past few decades - or are relatively new to the French house scene - Crydamoure was the record label ran by Guy-Man (one half of legendary duo Daft Punk) and Rico Chedeville between 1997 and 2003. In it's years of operation, it quickly became one of the most respected labels of its time - releasing several EPs and singles which became classics - from fantastic artists such as DJ Sneak, Paul Johnson, Play Paul, Sedat and Archigram, alongside Rico and Guy-Man themselves, under the alias "Le Knight Club" All of the records released through Crydamoure are of the highest orde...

Interview: Ghosts of Venice

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque! It's been a hot minute since there was an interview on the blog - and to make up for that, tonight we have somebody extremely special in the virtual hot seat - the incredible Ghosts of Venice. Known for his illustrious career spanning over a decade and a half - he's released on some of house music's biggest labels, produced some of the hottest tracks and remixes around, has over a billion streams under his belt - and he's also a pretty cracking DJ and promoter. With all of this in mind - I knew he had to get onto the blog! So, without further ado - I'll let him do the talking! For those who don’t know – who are you, what music do you make and where are you from?  My name is Lee Dunn, and I’ve gone by many monikers over the years, but most people know me as Ghosts of Venice. These days I mostly make Disco, and I’m from North Yorkshire, England. If you had to describe your sound to someone who’s never listened to your mu...
