Artist Lowdown: FIBRE

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque!

For today's post - I thought I'd bring back the Artist Lowdown series (not that it was ever dead...) - and this time around, I've decided to focus it on legendary Romanian-American DJ, producer, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist FIBRE - who, over the last decade has become a star in future funk, filter house and nu disco with his incredible original productions, releases for labels such as Business Casual, Neoncity, Savona and his own label Montaime and collaborations with those such as Aritus, Tendencies and Discoholic.

Without further ado, let's get started!

WHO IS HE?
Alexandru Galetus - known to many under his stage name FIBRE - is a Romanian born, Baltimore based music producer, DJ, audio engineer, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record label owner who initially began making music in early 2014 inspired by the wider French touch movement. Very quickly, he began to gain traction as future funk began its golden age that same year - and after releasing a small number of independent releases - he signed to Eraflure (a label run by Brighton's RobClemz) and released a string of singles spanning electro house, funk and disco.

2015 could possibly be considered one of his best years - as his music began to explode in popularity for many many reasons. Around this time, he began producing punchy, upbeat and frankly incredible future funk and French house jams - turning in an incredible streak of legendary singles which oozed with superb quality - amongst these include the incredible From Me To You - which almost has 130,000 plays on SoundCloud - the brilliant Nightchill - which was produced with Vista Kid Cruiser, ID Chief and Tendencies, and his breakthrough single - the post-disco, sun kissed anthem Supernatural - which has over a million streams across many different platforms. Around the same time, he became a co-owner of one of future funk's most legendary collectives - Future Society - practically catapulting him to the top ranks in the scene.

As to be expected, label offers soon followed, and so did collaborations throughout the next few years. He was swiftly picked up by Business Casual in early 2016 - and in September, released the incredible 810 - while at the same time releasing more future funk classics and collaborated with Beerlover, Aritus and Tendencies.

At the same time, he founded his (now legendary) underground disco label Montaime - released the Virtues EP with for Future Society with Aritus - which got championed by NEST HQ and Artzie Music - and finally, he signed to Savona for a compilation of his best singles, which was released days into 2017.

With all of this new-found momentum (and a now devoted fan base!) - Alex kept on delivering fantastic new music with some huge talents - such as ev.exi and Vantage - while building up Montaime, and experimenting with his sound. All of this culminated in him stepping into original productions and singing towards the end of the decade, and after releasing the legendary, funky cut Skylight Ballad, he scored his second breakout hit in August 2020 with Virtual World - a smooth, spacey (pun intended!) and groovy nu disco classic dedicated to his now-wife Sara. It quickly picked up steam - becoming the final track ever uploaded to Artzie Music - racking up over 800,000+ streams, and winning second place in the Future Funk Reddit competition. If that wasn't enough - the next year, he was officially selected to provide music for the soundtrack of League of Legends, amongst several other future funk artists - and a deluxe version of 810, featuring several new singles, was released through Neoncity in August 2021.

After a few more incredible years of work - with more standout single releases, shows across the US and Montaime's popularity increasing - 2025 began, and it essentially became the most packed - and incredible year of his career. A few months into the year - after a string of re-issued singles and the EP release of his iconic dance pop track In A Vision, in the middle of gearing up for a re-issue of Virtues - he was let go from his day job unexpectedly - meaning that he had three months to make music his full time job. So, after the release of Virtues Deluxe on Neoncity - he began preparing for more shows - which culminated in a fifteen date tour across the US (some of which, he headlined!) all while loads of fantastic Virtues related material dropped often - and to date, all of his physical music has sold out completely.

To sum it up - it's been an illustrious decade so far for one of the scene's biggest superheroes - and if this is anything to go by - 2026 is looking to be pretty freaking awesome - and if you don't know his music already, well I hope that my recommendations below will serve you well!

THE MUSIC:
Those that have been listening to FIBRE's music for a while will know that his style and his production skills are unmatched - whether that's slamming, sample heavy future funk, club ready house or silky, glamorous pop and disco cuts built for those hot summer days - there are lots of reasons why he's been one of my favourite artists for five years now. Here are some of my personal favourites from every era of his work! (And yes, it was really difficult to choose!)

From Me To You (Self released - 2015)
One of his earliest classics, and a legendary Artzie cut from June 2015 - From Me To You is brilliant in every way - it's an incredibly sharp, punchy and epic, yet ridiculously joyous track which is super full, fun, and one of my favourite examples of why post-disco samples make some of the best tracks! (See if you can spot the Dynasty sample!) - I play this pretty much daily, and for good reason - it's a fantastic pick me up if you're feeling a little grey, and it's just overflowing with positivity in general. All the more reason to go and stream / buy it!

Don't Stop! (Business Casual - 2016)
The second track from his critically acclaimed EP 810, Don't Stop has been a personal favourite of mine for the last three years or so - and upon listening, you'll fully understand why. If I had to describe this track quickly - it's like if SebastiAn switched from making dark, heavy electro-house, ate a ton of brownies and then went to the studio armed with plucky synths and a handful of disco wax to flip. Don't Stop is a true weapon - it's built for DJ sets, festivals and at least one dance session while you're alone in your bedroom - it's wild, extremely energetic and it radiates warmth. Go and give it a spin, loudly, I advise!

Virtual World (Montaime - 2020)
There's no way this couldn't go on this list. A gorgeous, dazzling nu disco track filled with deep, intricate instrumentation, buckets of groove, tight, squeaky clean production and fantastic writing and singing from the man himself - it's easy to see why Virtual World is one of FIBRE's biggest hits. It's very romantic, slightly sentimental in nature and a massive classic. If Something About Us was a little less chilled and retrospective, and a little faster and happier - this would undoubtedly be the result.

Also, this song is great for singing in the shower. I have never done it (I'd sound terrible!) but I can almost guarantee that belting it out will boost your mood!

Nevermore (Coraspect - 2021)
Initially released through the deluxe version of 810 - and later as a single - Nevermore is a track that I've (surprisingly) only recently discovered, but man, it is a beauty. This may seem like an odd mix of words - but if I had to describe this track - it feels extremely epic, bad-ass and glamorous - while also sounding glittery, bright and loose - making it a damn near perfect slice of cracking filter house with that signature FIBRE punch and excellent sample finesse. This is one I'll definitely be sticking into my DJ sets, and to all of my fellow DJs that read the blog - you know exactly what to do!

Totality (Montaime - 2022)
Taken as the second track from his sophomore EP Rendezvous - Totality is, in my humble opinion, one of the best displays of FIBRE's talent. Although this track is a fully original, disco influenced jam with the fantastic instrumentation and tight production me and you have now come to expect - Totality feels like a jittery, slightly off-kilter, yet awesome amalgamation of the stuff on Daft Punk's sophomore album Discovery, the late 2010s work of LemKuuja, and the crisp sounds of modern pop music, all rolled into a neat little package. It's only three minutes - but it packs quite the mighty punch!

Let Me Go (feat. Aritus and SDR - Neoncity - 2024)
Like I said in the blog's 1st anniversary post - Let Me Go is one of my favourite tracks to have come out of the scene this year - and this is for so, so many reasons. For a start, it manages to bridge nu disco, future funk and French / filter house into one song, which sounds slightly insane, but somehow, he and Aritus pulled it off expertly - and in general - it's just an awesome, groovy banger that shimmers with light and hope. The top notch, sparkly instrumentation, the slamming drum-work and the excellent, soft vocals from SDR really make this track a massive classic - and I'll be damned if it doesn't become more recognized - because truly, this outing is incredible!

Supernatural (2015 - Future Society / Savona / Neoncity)
To end this post out - I feel like I should mention this incredible track - which recently just surpassed one million streams on Spotify. Supernatural - which was initially released through Future Society - is, truly the definition of how to do future funk perfectly. It's one of the finest examples of the genre to date - it's produced extremely well, it's incredibly dynamic, and above all, it's just so, so happy - the first drop brings me back to the many summers that have been sound-tracked to this. Sampling post-disco legends The Limit and Tavares to a T - this track is summery, extremely fun, upbeat - and the very song that got me started on this disco-led journey.

There you have it, everyone!

I hope you've enjoyed reading today's post as much as I've had writing it - it's been amazing having another deep dive into FIBRE's incredible catalogue - and if you haven't listened to much of the guy's fantastic music - I urge you to do so. The stuff that awaits you is stunning!

You can find FIBRE on all good streaming platforms - but I'm going to link his Bandcamp and Instagram below!

As always, keep enjoying your stay at the discotheque.
