Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque!
It's been a very long time since the last promotion post on the blog (once again, sorry!) - however, since I've been out of the game, there has been so, so many incredible releases from some of the biggest talents over this month - so much so, that this post is going to have to be split into two parts - which is a first for ATD!
So, without further ado - let's get straight into part one - and take a look at all of the amazing things that have released in May!
The Young MC - Come Along With Me
A few weeks back, fans of Russian filter house label Flowerside were treated to this brand new single from a mysterious artist known as "The Young MC" - who delivered a killer, late 90s sounding DJ tool which is extremely funky, warm and uplifting. To me, this track is absolutely magnificent, and if I had to describe it - it feels like a very welcome hybrid between the styles of Patrick Alavi, System Works and the early work of Sebastian Leger - who were all fixtures in the early 2000s explosion of French house.
It was later found out that the person behind this stunning (and very glamorous) single was none other than the blog's resident Liverpool-based producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist Luv4Loop - and this only proves his talents further as an extremely versatile artist - first it was garage, then it was dreamy chill-wave, and now it's early 2000s, analogue-sounding Parisian house which could have easily gone on any of Fab G's legendary labels during their prime. If you're a fan of post-disco infused, club ready house that's rather cool - go and buy this to help soundtrack your summer. You will not be disappointed!
Buy and download it from Flowerside's Bandcamp page now.
Minuit Cafe, Zai Kowen and Zeku - Let Me Know (blip_'s Nu-Disco Mix)
It's been a damn long time since Argentina's Minuit Cafe was featured on the blog - and on May 6th - he, amongst some of future funk's finest talents (namely Zai Kowen and Zeku!) returned with a re-issue of their incredible 2024 single Let Me Know - bolstered by a brand new remix from Australian maestro blip_ - which is absolutely fantastic.
While the original track is a glittery, spring anthem which feels like a hybrid between the sounds of old school hip hop, future funk and R&B with how smooth it is - the nu disco remix from blip_ takes the track in a completely different direction - it's a little bit faster, it's been entirely reworked to work perfectly at parties and at festivals with some French house flair - and to add, it melds his fantastic, tight production with the sounds of the late 70s disco craze (the little disco bleeps are everything!) - making it a fantastic track to play anywhere and everywhere. If you're in the mood to groove today - play this loud, and be sure to check out the original too, which is just as great!
You can grab it from Minuit Cafe's Bandcamp page now - where there's an extended club mix to boot!
Strawberry Station - ISSHO-NI!!!
Released on May 21st through legendary independent label My Pet Flamingo - it was a lovely surprise to find out last Friday that UK-based producer and future funk veteran Strawberry Station had dropped a brand new album - and as to be expected, it's absolutely brilliant, it's full of so many bangers and future classics - and above all, it's also a rather cute record, too!
There's a whole lot here that I want to talk about - firstly, although Issho-Ni is predominantly a future funk record, there's plenty of different things on offer here - with elements of French house, Japanese pop, breakbeat, chillout and nu disco littered throughout. Furthermore, there's also a couple of amazing collaborations - with the likes of FreshAppleSlices and Zai Kowen appearing on this album - giving future funk fanatics even more reason to buy this release, aside from the healthy amount of anime references and excellently produced cuts!
The first half of the album is my personal favourite part - it's stuffed to the brim with joyous disco and future funk which reminds me heavily of the work of South Korean legend Night Tempo during his early years (which is a massive plus!) - all of the sampling is absolutely fantastic, the beats are great and I know for a fact that so many of the tracks from the first half are going to become staples on Real Love Music - my personal favourites include the brilliant Come Get Some - which is a hip-hop influenced, rap jam set to the usual sounds of glittery future funk - the amazing, vocaloid-esque Hideaway with Zai Kowen, and Horenaosu - which sounds like a sweet cut from Le Nonsense back in his early 2010s heyday - hell yeah!
The second half is a little more experimental - there's the usual, cute, party ready stuff - but also lots of versatility - there's trap, there's slamming disco akin to the work of Childhood, and, as stated above - a rather lovely chillout ending which melds smooth instrumentation, breaks and J-pop together - making the second half a very intriguing (but just as fun) listen - my personal favourites being the brilliant (and very bassy) Golden Drip Girl and my personal favourite on this album, Boys Can Never Tell - which is an extremely funky, yet slightly swingy cut which wouldn't feel out of place in Rubix's late 2000s discography.
In short - this album is a real treat to listen to - and it's certainly going to become one of my personal favourites from this year - be sure to grab it digitally, stream it, or grab the limited edition vinyl and cassette runs!
Find it on all good streaming platforms - as per usual, the Bandcamp is linked below!
Fcukers - If You Wanna Party, Come Over To My House (SHPESHFTR Remix)
While future funk and French house are staples on the blog - and we love upbeat funky cuts here - I wanted to step away from all of that for a second to marvel over the brand new, French electro influenced remix from Ontario's greatest blog-era purveyor and electro house king SHPESHFTR - which is a pounding, yet effortlessly dark rework of a modern classic by New-York based band Fcukers.
While the original track is a pretty sweet, funky house tune that would do numbers in large clubs and social events - in true SHPESHFR fashion - he decided to take a completely different approach and take the track up several notches to create what I think is his best work yet - it's a ridiculous remix full of thick, menacing synths, ridiculously heavy drum work and just enough jittery chops and great sampling to make it feel like a classic Ed Banger cut on an even larger amount of steroids. Is maximalist house the way forward? I sure as hell think so!

Vampires Love Sunny - Mind and Body
Those that have been keeping up in the nu-disco scene are now surely aware of Vampires Love Sunny - the incredible new singer and artist who is making rounds with her incredible covers and recent collaboration with Discoholic. On May 14th, eager fans were treated to an absolutely stunning new cover of Camino 84's glamorous, yet slightly lo-fi disco jam Mind and Body. While the original is a smooth, yet slightly gritty anthem - this cover completely reinvents the original with lots of extremely brilliant, warm instrumentation (I applaud the fellow instrumentalists on this cover!) - by turning it into a crisp, rich and deeply moving track which has an almost cinematic quality - I could totally see this at the end of a Disney film, or even being remixed in the future by legends such as Louis La Roche or Chromeo - so it's a huge thumbs up from me!
You can find it on all good streaming platforms - however, the Bandcamp is linked below so you can support Sunny directly!
Louis La Roche - Hot Gossip
Speaking of Louis La Roche and his absolutely incredible music - I thought I'd shine a light on his latest single, which is taken from his seventh studio album, which is coming in around two months (yippee!) - and while the previous single No One Really Cares was a buttery smooth, nu disco and pop jam which I still think should be played on Radio 1 daily - his latest offering "Hot Gossip" goes down the other end, and is a sweet, yet deep and soulful slice of disco house which wouldn't feel out of place in a DJ set from Tomos - which is very fitting, as this track is built for DJing, as stated by Louis himself! - as per usual from one of the scene's biggest talents, this is such an incredible track - the production itself is tight, punchy while still having a whole bunch of swing - and it's also extremely playful, filled with great hooks and lots of big beats. For all of the DJs that read this - stick this in the digital DJ bag - it's totally worth it!
You can find "Hot Gossip" on Bandcamp below.
Laberge - Small Migraine
Released quietly on his SoundCloud last night - it was a welcome surprise to see one of Canada's finest disco talents - the incredible Laberge - emerge from the depths once again with a killer new track which is extremely catchy, yet at the same time very quirky. Although it's relatively simple production wise - I particularly enjoy this tune for many different reasons - first of all, it sounds a little bit like some of the music that Strip Steve would have released back in the late 2000s - likely due to the jittery synth lead used, and the slight acid influences - and also because the sampling technique is great, and it manages to tread that fine line between something for parties, and something to chill to - so it's a glowing endorsement from me!
Stream this banger from Laberge's SoundCloud now.
DJ DLG - Lose Yourself EP
I've always loved bringing people onto the blog for the first time - and I'm pleased to say that I'm super excited to talk about the brand new EP from one of filter house's biggest legends - US-based veteran DJ DLG. Over the last two and a half decades, he's been known for making so many incredible jams - and this release is no exception, as there's six new and incredible tracks for listeners to sink their teeth into. Lose Yourself is one of my favourite releases of this month for two major reasons - first of all, every single track oozes with magnificent quality - and similar to the headlining release on this post from The Young MC - this EP feels like something that would have absolutely made rounds back in the early 2000s - which, fittingly, was when DLG started - so the influence is clearly there.
Secondly, this whole EP is absolutely built for clubs, parties and festivals - every track is better than the last, and there's a whole lot of analogue warmth and thumping production that I'd love to see more of in today's French house scene (alongside those syncopated, natural bass-lines that serve as a huge dose of ear candy!) - so I could totally imagine huge crowds losing their minds to so many of these tracks - Highrise in particular is absolutely wild, and I'll be dropping it a ton in my sets for sure!
In general - you can likely tell that I absolute adore this record - and it sure is hard picking out my favourite tracks, but if I had to narrow it down (after much thinking!) - my picks would go to Highrise, which I've already mentioned above - as it is a heavy, yet ridiculously funky future classic - the much darker (and very bad-ass) Feel The Beat - which could totally pass off as part of a release on legendary underground label Vertigo (home to those such as Vinyl Fever, Gile and Patrick Alavi) and finally, the titular track, which is an absolutely gorgeous, summery body mover that I'd like to see a whole bunch of DJs catch on to.
You can grab Lose Yourself digitally through a whole bunch of streaming services - or through ElasticStage on vinyl.
CATHEDRALIS - Hegemony
Now, I think it's time for something a little bit different - building onto the topic of bloghouse and Ed Banger cuts, on May 22nd, Argentina-based producer CATHEDRALIS came in hot with his brand new single Hegemony, which, if I may say - is absolutely stunning. To me, it's a genius mix of synth-wave and dark, late 80s pop - as pioneered by Ed Banger's very own Kavinsky - and also the harsh sounds of electro that dominated clubs in the late 2000s, which, when melded together, create an absolutely insane listening experience which feels extremely unique, slightly quirky, but above all - it's just bloody awesome. It's thick, aggressive, demanding and genuinely nuts - so if there's any film makers that read the blog looking for things to use - maybe put this into your next action script. Are you sure? I hear you ask - Yes. I am very sure!
You can grab it on Bandcamp now!
