Re-Interview: Opierm

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque!

It's been a super long time since a post on the blog (You can blame my first year of A-Level exams, other creative projects and life in general for that one, sorry!) - but to make it up to you, I thought I'd get someone super special back in the hot seat for the first interview of the summer!

Today, we have Opierm - the founder of legendary filter house label Creux La Nuit and a coveted producer in his own right back in the virtual hot seat. Since I last caught up with him back in April 2025 - a lot of stuff has changed, so I knew I had to get him back on the blog so he could share some sweet stuff with you fellow readers!

Without further ado, let's get to it!

For those who don’t know you, or are new to the blog – who are you, where are you from and what music do you make?

Hello! My name is Patrick - I’m known as Opierm. I’m from Montevideo, Uruguay and I usually make French House, Lofi House and Electro sometimes.

Welcome back, man! How have you been?

I’ve been pretty good lately! Had some really rough times last year and stuff but everything’s slowly getting going back to normal / getting better now!

Since the last interview, so much has changed for you – so let’s start things off strong and talk about your label Creux La Nuit. Can you give some of the newer readers a brief rundown of the collective and its history?

Creux La Nuit is an Electronic music collective I founded back in September of 2023 - at first it was just like a “place” to “release” music with barely any seriousness and the collective started with a really small amount of artists (was only Hollowire & Future0s around the beginning of 2024) - however, it has since grown up to 20 artists and has over 60+ releases.

Building onto that, over the last year, CLN has had so many amazing releases from loads of awesome people – so what have been your personal favourites across the last year?

There’s a lot of releases that I love, it’s a pretty tough question honestly! I would say some of my favourites are:
Luv4Loop - Often Ways
CitrikkAcid - Hold Me So Tight
& Le Sørv - You Take Me Away EP

Who would you like to join the collective in the near future, and where do you see it being in the next few years?

I would love to have Louis La Roche or Broke One on the collective, they’re great artists - other than that, I don’t really know - but I really hope the label keeps growing and we get even more great artists!

Stepping away from CLN, let’s talk about you – what artists have been inspiring you the most in your recent productions?

Patrick Alavi, Space Cowboy and The Director have been inspiring me lately since I’ve been listening to a lot of stuff from the late 90s / early 00s!

Building onto that – has your music setup changed much from when I last caught up with you?

Not really, I still have my MIDI & PC, but I got a bass now!

First random question of the interview – if you became the head of a huge festival and had to book a selection of DJs and producers to play there – who would you go with, and why?

I would go with The Director, Ian Pooley, Todd Edwards, Alan Braxe & DJ Falcon and Jersey (Duo)

Alongside making music with computers, you’ve also recently started playing the bass and the piano – and I was wondering, has learning these instruments helped you during the process? If so, how?

Pretty much, yeah! I think it’s been helping me a lot with the recognition of notes, matching keys of samples and other stuff like that.

When I interviewed you last year, you said that you’d take Fred Falke’s debut album, TPR’s debut album and the second volume of Shiny Disco Club’s Millenium Disco series to a desert island – do you still agree with these options, and if not – what three albums would you take with you now?

I don’t! I would take:
Modjo - Modjo
Cassius - 1999
Etienne De Crécy - Tempovision

If you finally got the chance to go on a world tour, where would be your first stops, and what venues / clubs would you like to play in?

I would love to play in Clwb Ifor Bach and El Paradiso - other than those places, I'm currently not sure!

You’ve experimented with so many different eras of the filter house sound, and I’m curious to know what era your favourite is, why you love it so much, and your favourite artists from that time!

My favourite era is the MySpace era, I really love it because of the amount of creativity / different sounds artists had at the time, I would say my favourite artists are Vanguard, The Phantom’s Revenge & Laberge!

Is your favourite food still sushi?

Yeah, I still really love sushi!

If you got the chance to live in a particular time period, what would that be, and why?

I would live in the late 2000s, it was just such a great era! You had no AI, prime Ed Banger Records, MySpace and the Moda events!

Going back onto the topic of CLN – now, although you’re the main owner – Luv4Loop and Inky also now own it with you. How has that helped in terms of running the collective, and how have things changed seeing as you’re no longer doing this on your own?

It has helped the label a lot with the organization, promotion, etc.

What’s a filter house record that’s incredibly underrated that more people need to hear?

I don’t really know but maybe Bimbo Jones - Touch Me or Zack Toms - Muzik. They’re both great tracks!

Is there anything that readers can expect from you in the coming months?

An EP & maybe some singles, I haven’t been producing as much, but I hope I can get some stuff out since my last EP was released almost a year ago!

Is there anything that readers can expect from CLN in the coming months?

Releases, releases, releases & releases, expect releases and more releases.
Oh yeah, did I say releases?

Describe your life in a single sentence.

Pure bullshit.

Do you want to give any shoutouts to anyone?

Shoutout to Lee, Jacob, Rico, Toby, the whole CLN crew & my dog Laika!

There you have it, everyone!

You can find Opierm and his collective Creux La Nuit in many different places - several links are below!

As always, keep enjoying your stay at the discotheque!

Crydamoure is back (technically)

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque. For today's post, I thought I'd write about something a little bit different. Over the last nine months or so, a small group of independent producers have been making waves in the French house scene for a simple reason - they're bringing back the sound of legendary French label Crydamoure with style. If you've been living under a rock for the past few decades - or are relatively new to the French house scene - Crydamoure was the record label ran by Guy-Man (one half of legendary duo Daft Punk) and Rico Chedeville between 1997 and 2003. In it's years of operation, it quickly became one of the most respected labels of its time - releasing several EPs and singles which became classics - from fantastic artists such as DJ Sneak, Paul Johnson, Play Paul, Sedat and Archigram, alongside Rico and Guy-Man themselves, under the alias "Le Knight Club" All of the records released through Crydamoure are of the highest orde...

It's been a hot minute since there was an interview on the blog - and to make up for that, tonight we have somebody extremely special in the virtual hot seat - the incredible Ghosts of Venice. Known for his illustrious career spanning over a decade and a half - he's released on some of house music's biggest labels, produced some of the hottest tracks and remixes around, has over a billion streams under his belt - and he's also a pretty cracking DJ and promoter. With all of this in mind - I knew he had to get onto the blog! So, without further ado - I'll let him do the talking! For those who don’t know – who are you, what music do you make and where are you from?  My name is Lee Dunn, and I’ve gone by many monikers over the years, but most people know me as Ghosts of Venice. These days I mostly make Disco, and I’m from North Yorkshire, England. If you had to describe your sound to someone who’s never listened to your mu...
