Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque!
It's been a fairly eventful day for me (I had a huge family gathering, and I'm rather tired!) so I apologize for not getting this post out sooner - to make up for it, here's your daily dose of great selections from me - on the cards today are two killer French house cuts from New York and California, so get ready for your ears to be blessed!
Mr. Hoosteen - Delite (feat. Chello)
If you've been reading this blog for a long time, or are a personal friend of mine - then you know that I almost never stop singing my praises for one of New York's finest artistic talents. He's the founder of OMEAC Records, an excellent graphic designer specializing in pop-art influenced works that are futuristic, colourful and full of glamour, but most importantly, he's an absolutely incredible producer that (somehow) is still very underrated, cooking up the finest in filter house, nu disco, rave and acid techno - this of course being Mr. Hoosteen. For today's first pick, I've decided to go with one of the amazing singles from his debut album Anachronism, which was initially reviewed on the blog back in February, that takes a leaf out of the books from the artists on Crydamoure, early Bob Sinclar and of course, early Daft Punk - the result being a very awesome Anita Ward sampling six minute workout that could be used perfectly to open up your sets, or to start your morning with. As per usual, the production is top notch (and the bassline from Berde is so, so damn smooth!) whilst having all of the major ingredients to be a classic, filtery ear-worm that pretty much anyone involved in French house is bound to love. I also want to note the little 'pew' sounds throughout that remind of disco's first wave in the late seventies (it's a lovely touch!) - and if that wasn't enough, on the flip side there are some killer remixes from Chello and Ankaph. Result!
LBCK - Instant Party
When I initially did a mini-feature on this track back in late December for their entry in the Artist Lowdown series (damn, I haven't done one of those in forever!) I described Instant Party (which is somehow fifteen years old now, what the hell?) as a glitchy nu disco jam with a bunch of filter house influence, which still rings true in my eyes - but since then, it's essentially become my favourite track from the Californian duo (and that's saying something, as I'm a huge fan of their work!) due to the fact that it's incredibly nostalgic, relentlessly happy and it's a super, super unique jam with its almost stutter like chops (think of it as like your CD skipping, but in a good way?) boomy drum-work and reliance on the low end (but that's almost a given, seeing as the word 'bass' is repeated throughout!) - so just from that description alone, readers are bound to know why I love Instant Party so damn much. Furthermore, it also holds a little bit of sentimental value for me, as it was a key part of the soundtrack to my post high school summer, and now I've been playing it a ton in Oklahoma - it's become a key part of my adventure there too. If any of y'all are heading on vacation soon, maybe add this to your playlist. Or, if you just wanna dance around your room or something, it's good for that too!
There you have it, everyone!
I hope you've enjoyed listening to (and reading about!) these tracks - I should be back with three new cuts tomorrow (if I'm not super busy again...)
Be sure to support all of the artists featured today, and as always - keep enjoying your stay at the discotheque.
