Interview: ZeroZed

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque.

For today's interview, we have American producer ZeroZed joining the hot seat at ATD - he's known for producing an eclectic mix of garage, French house and if it's your thing - drum and bass, too. He's also a member of both Deladapt Records and Creux La Nuit, so he's recognizable in various places!

Without further ado, I'll let him do the talking.

For those who don’t know you – who are you, and what music do you make?

I'm ZeroZed - I mainly make UKG & jungle music, but I also do french house.

What are some of your inspirations musically?

I'd say that Todd Edwards inspired me (no pun intended) but I am also inspired by the whole Todd Edwards fan crew. I'm not really inspired by anybody for my jungle music!

You recently released your latest EP, Needing on Deladapt Records / CLN – can you tell us some of the production secrets behind it?

For the first track (I Need You) I just stole drums from a WIP version of Luv4Loop's "The Answer" and the bass I stole from Sauve La Musique's WIP of a track called Reach Out :P

Building onto that, what programs / equipment do you use to make music?

It's a whole jumble of a mess - I used to use LMMS before switching to FL Studio, but I use Ableton for collaborations - nothing physical though, maybe except for a CD player.

If you had to take three albums to a desert island – which releases would you pick?

Honestly, I don't know! (I'm just a producer, so check my last.fm!)

My favourite track of yours is your edit of “Love Sensation” on the joint single between you and Luv4Loop – how did that come about?

So, I first used FL Studio for the WIP, and Luv4Loop wanted to collab, so I sent the project file - but he used Ableton - so I remade it in Live 12, but realized that wouldn't work because he uses Live 11, so I down converted it.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Do you think I know where I see myself in one year?

If you were allowed to have lunch with one artist you love, living or dead, who would that be, and why?

Michael Jackson in 1984 so I can tell him not to go to that Pepsi commercial.

Do you want to give any tips to aspiring producers?

Honestly, I need tips myself!

Do you want to give any shoutouts to anyone?

Danny Shazam, Najjan, TG, Sauve La Musique, Garx, Klaus Veen, Luis Obando, Fidel Guzman, Ayala. basically anyone in the Todd Edwards fan crew because that's why I started making music in the first place.

There you have it, everyone.

You can find ZeroZed on Bandcamp.

As always, keep enjoying your stay at the discotheque.

Today, I thought I'd do a post talking about some of the great new releases over the last week in French house, future funk and disco - there's been some super interesting and fun new cuts - so without further ado, let's get started! THAT'S MATT! - RED STATE ROMEO (THAT'S MATT ANTHEM) On August 15th, everyone's favourite disco cowboy That's Matt dropped an absolutely killer future funk single, which feels heavily inspired by Cape Coral and SebastiAn. A heavy, groovy single with some absolutely fantastic production, this track is fun, lawless in nature and super exciting, and it's packed with some great beats and dope vibes. A must buy for those into modern future funk. You can find it on all good streaming platforms now! Opierm - Forgotten What I Was Feeling Released today on his SoundCloud, Uruguayan producer Opierm's brand new single is such a beautiful piece of work. Inspired by the late 2000s work o...

Crydamoure is back (technically)

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque. For today's post, I thought I'd write about something a little bit different. Over the last nine months or so, a small group of independent producers have been making waves in the French house scene for a simple reason - they're bringing back the sound of legendary French label Crydamoure with style. If you've been living under a rock for the past few decades - or are relatively new to the French house scene - Crydamoure was the record label ran by Guy-Man (one half of legendary duo Daft Punk) and Rico Chedeville between 1997 and 2003. In it's years of operation, it quickly became one of the most respected labels of its time - releasing several EPs and singles which became classics - from fantastic artists such as DJ Sneak, Paul Johnson, Play Paul, Sedat and Archigram, alongside Rico and Guy-Man themselves, under the alias "Le Knight Club" All of the records released through Crydamoure are of the highest orde...

Interview: Ghosts of Venice

Hey everyone - welcome back at the discotheque! It's been a hot minute since there was an interview on the blog - and to make up for that, tonight we have somebody extremely special in the virtual hot seat - the incredible Ghosts of Venice. Known for his illustrious career spanning over a decade and a half - he's released on some of house music's biggest labels, produced some of the hottest tracks and remixes around, has over a billion streams under his belt - and he's also a pretty cracking DJ and promoter. With all of this in mind - I knew he had to get onto the blog! So, without further ado - I'll let him do the talking! For those who don’t know – who are you, what music do you make and where are you from?  My name is Lee Dunn, and I’ve gone by many monikers over the years, but most people know me as Ghosts of Venice. These days I mostly make Disco, and I’m from North Yorkshire, England. If you had to describe your sound to someone who’s never listened to your mu...
